In 2003, after successfully renegotiating their contract with Epic, Incubus struggled further in parting ways with bassist Dirk Lance. When a proven lineup has a successful chemistry, there is always the danger of tampering with that magic when a personnel change occurs. Luckily, Incubus dodged that bullet and struck gold with four-stringer Ben Kenney (Roots/Blackalicious).
The requisite elements that Incubus fans have come to expect are firmly in place on A CROW LEFT OF THE MURDER, with the up-tempo bombast of "Megalomaniac" and "Beware? Criminal," the softer dynamics of "Southern Girl," and radio-friendly "Talk Shows On Mute." What may come as a surprise are the jazzy, proggy moments. In that light, some nods to Rush crop up, as with the chorus of the title track, "Agoraphobia" and the extended instrumental section of "Pistola." Guitarist Mike Einziger offers up plenty of quirky, interesting guitar work, especially in "Sick, Sad Little World" and "Priceless." CROW stands as an evolved statement of intent for Incubus, and a promise that the sky's the limit for this bird of flight.
Includes bonus DVD.
Incubus: DJ Kilmore, Mike Einziger, Ben Kenney, Jose Antonio Pasillas II, Brandon Boyd.

Mojo (Publisher) (2/04, p.94) - 3 stars out of 5 - "Songs like 'Sick', 'Sad Little World', and 'See Deveel' are exhilarating, Incubus trading their outer aggression for inner animus." haha people are so lame "it doesn't sound just like their old stuff so i hate it. i listened to it for 15 minutes and expected to be blown away instantly..." idiots. i made the same mistake, anytime anyone changes you have to adjust. i hated morning view at first because it didn't sound like make yourself.. and i heard ppl complain about make yourself because it didn't sound like s.c.i.e.n.c.e. the difference in s.c.i.e.n.c.e. and make yourself is far more drastic than morning view and this album. i will admit that alex's absence leaves a noticeable emptiness, but brandon's voice hasn't gotten any weaker.. and mike still has the same great ideas and energy. thats why i gave this album 4 instead of 5 stars. not their best album of all time, but its far from sucking.. especially compared to what's been coming out lately. haters. Bulky; requires multiple listens!!!!! A Crow Left of the Murder; Agoraphobia; Beware! Criminal; Pistola; Priceless; Zee Deveel; Smile Lines; and Leech. Anything resembling like Make Yourself should look elsewhere otherwise it is a fair, but mature outing for this group so far. Submitted by Yvette (Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA) Was This Review Helpful? Stick with the classics; 1st enjoyable ... Kick out the jams, I'd prefer to stick to Korn's Take a Look in the Mirror release, their contempories, please. This mirrors complexity }:-( Submitted by skank992002 (Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Crow Left Of The Murder... album
$9.59 Take the apocalyptic, electronics-tinged riff-rock of bands like Korn. Subtract the fratboy sensibility and the Red Hot Chili Peppers-derived hip-hop rhythms. Add a sophisticated sense of melody and harmony, a more optimistic lyrical outlook, and a sense of dynamics. You've essentially got the Incubus sound. Incubus practices the kind of rapid intra-song mood shifts that were Nirvana's trademark, but instead of merely going from soft to loud and back, they change stylistically, switching from full-on hard rock to almost jangly, low-key alt-rock. The resultant sound ...

$7.05 Additional personnel includes: Joel Derouin, Marion De Leon (violin); Evan Wilson, Karie Prescott (viola); Larry Corbett (cello); Jon Clarke (winds); Dawn Beckman (background vocals).
MORNING VIEW was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical).
Incubus is ready to pave its own way in the modern rock scene. With the brooding and crunchy musical themes of MORNING VIEW, it's almost hard to imagine that the album was written and recorded in the relaxed atmosphere of a California beach house. Drummer Jose Pasillas offers tasty percussive coloring in the breakout single, "Wish You Were Here." The song's trippy verses set against its heavily strummed choruses fits the profile of push-and-pull dynamics that Incubus fans have come to expect. "11am" touches on regret and indecision with some neo-Eastern flavor and Mike Patton-inspired vocalizing by frontman Brandon ...
| | A Perfect Circle Thirteenth Step CD (2003)
Crow Left Of The Murder... music CDs
$11.29 With its sophomore effort, THIRTEENTH STEP, A Perfect Circle permanently sheds any clinging notions of being a Tool side-project. Although Maynard James Keenan's plaintive vocals immediately conjure up thoughts of his other outfit, APC distinguishes itself by furthering the melodic elements present on the group's first outing, MER DE NOMS. "The Package" starts things off slowly, with a foreboding guitar line and minimal drum cadence that gradually build into a full-blown Sabbath-like dirge. Carried along by the fluid bass playing of Jeordie White (formerly known as Twiggy Ramirez of Marilyn Manson), "The Noose" gives a tip of the hat to the Cure's gloomiest work, while White and guitarist Billy Howerdel create an entrancingly chiming bass/guitar tapestry on "Blue."
Though many of the album's tracks surge with APC's powerful metal riffs, the folky "A Stranger" and ...

Hoobastank's second full-length release finds the oddly named band honing their hard-rock hooks. On THE REASON, the group recalls a poppier Tool without the dark, brooding qualities or experimental edge. Douglas Robb's introspective, angst-ridden ...

Crow Left Of The Murder... album
$8.99 "Sucker Train Blues" roars out of the starting block, rocking like there's no tomorrow, with Weiland's seething vocals riding the six-string whirlwind generated by guitar supremo Slash and his new sidekick Dave Kushner. "Big Machine," with its doubtlessly autobiographical storyline about the pitfalls of stardom, melds the ring of truth with the voice of experience. The ...

| | Robert Calvert Blueprints From The Cellar/At The Queen Elizabeth Hall CDs (2004) (Import) United Kingdom
Crow Left Of The Murder... album
$21.09 A two-fer reissue for two posthumous Robert Calvert albums, one -- the 1986 Live at the Queen Elizabeth Hall document -- more or less essential, the other, Blueprints from the Cellar, of somewhat more limited interest. Live at the Queen Elizabeth Hall was recorded in London in October 1986, shortly after the release of Calvert's Test Tube Conceived album. Representing less than half of the live show, this set, however, is firmly retrospective, drawing in the main from his solo debut, Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters, and the oddly overlooked Freq. As such, it goes without saying that the live versions struggle to match their studio counterparts -- both albums, after all, were very much the children of the recording studio, and a scratch band pieced together from various members of Inner City Unit simply cannot compete. The recording quality, on the other hand, is more or less excellent, and this remains a fascinating document, both for the chance to experience Calvert's on-stage conversation, and for the ferocious version of "Working Down a Diamond Mine," one of several songs that also appears on the second disc. As its title suggests, the accompanying Blueprints from ...
