| | Best Of Mac Dre CDs (1993)
Gay Happening: Vol. 10
$15.59 Contains 32 tracks. Within the span of a decade, Mac Dre released a plethora of albums, not only full-lengths under his own name, but also multiple volumes in the Rompilation series. When his best-of finally appeared in 2002, it was about time a collection of this underground West Coast Bay Area rapper's music was compiled. Tha Best of Mac Dre goes back all the way to the early '90s, when Dre was recording albums for Strictly Business, compiling several songs from his Young Black Brotha (1993) album. There are a total of 32 songs on this best-of, spanning the distance of two discs. This is undoubtedly the place in Dre's huge discography to begin if you're new to his music. ~ Jason Birchmeier
(2-CD set) Here are all the Mac Dre classics - 32 songs, over 138 minutes on two CDs under one cover for the first time. Includes "2 Hard 4 Tha Radio," "Rapper Gone Bad," "California Livin'," "Young Black Brotha," "Love That Donkey" and much, much more.Andre Hicks (July 5, 1970 - November 1, 2004), better known by his stage name, "Mac Dre", was a San Francisco Bay Area based gangsta rapper from Vallejo, California. He has worked with artists like E-40, Yukmouth, Snoop Dogg, and Keak da Sneak. Artist InfoDate of birth: July 5 1970 Place of birth: Oakland, CaliforniaDate of death: November 1, 2004 Place of death: Kansas City, MissouriCareerMac Dre's music gained popularity in the early to mid 1990s throughout the Bay Area, eventually receiving national recognition through his independent record labels Romp and Thizz Entertainment. During his music career, he has released many hit singles, such as "Too Hard for the Radio", and most recently "Feeling Myself". He was the creator of the "Thizzle Dance", a popular dance which holds no specific standard.Hardship and controversy have been staples of Mac Dre's career. After recording his first three albums between 1989 and 1991, Andre Hicks was charged with conspiracy to commit bank robbery. Hicks' record label, Romp Productions, and his many references to "Romper Room" in his songs, coincided with a Vallejo robbery gang of the time calling themselves the "Romper Room Gang" and responsible for the robberies of many area banks and pizza parlours. Hicks was alleged to be a member of the gang. The rapper was sentenced to five years in prison in 1992.In prison, Hicks gained some ...

| | John Coltrane Bags And Trane CD (1959) (Import) United Kingdom
Gay Happening: Vol. 10
$11.79 2004 remastered reissue of 1959 album, Milt Jackson & Coltrane's only joint recording, features 8 tracks including 3 bonus tracks, 'Stairway To The Stars', 'Blues Legacy' & 'Centerpiece'. Digipak. Atlantic.
Personnel: John Coltrane (tenor saxophone); Milt Jackson (vibraphone); Hank Jones (piano); Paul Chambers (bass); Connie Kay (drums). Producer: Nesuhi Ertegun. Reissue producer: Bob Porter. Includes liner notes by C.H. Garrigues. BAGS & TRANE is a 1959 release that finds saxophonist John Coltrane and vibraphonist Milt Jackson collaborating. Vibraphonist Milt Jackson and tenor saxophonist John Coltrane make for a surprisingly complementary team on this 1959 studio session, their only joint recording. With fine backup by pianist Hank Jones, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Connie Kay, Bags and Trane stretch out on two of Jackson's originals (including "The Late Late Blues") and three standards: a romping "Three Little Words," "The Night We Called It a Day," and the rapid "Be-Bop." This enjoyable music has been included as part of Rhino's Heavyweight Champion: The Complete Atlantic Recordings box. ~ Scott Yanow As John Coltrane moved from music rich in chordal complexity to a newer, freer form of modality--in which melodic and rhythmic freedom came to the fore--some critics couldn't make the imaginative leap. But no one could ever question Coltrane's superb musicianship. This all-star session isn't merely an aesthetic bone to these critics, but a superb example of two masters blowing relaxed and free over a tight, intuitive rhythm section. There's Jackson's Modern Jazz Quartet collaborator Connie Kay on drums, master of understated swing; the elegant, ...
