This two-fer from Collectables features a pair of out of print Frankie Laine LPs, Frankie Laine, Balladeer and Deuces Wild, originally issued in 1959 and 1961, respectively. There is continuity across all of the 24 tracks here, which are dominated by easy listening versions of traditional and popular country & western songs, including "Sixteen Tons," "Ace in the Hole," "Careless Love," "Camptown Races," and "On a Monday." This is an enjoyable reissue from the large Frankie Laine catalog on Columbia Records, but most listeners would be better served with one of the many compilations in print. ~ Al Campbell

| Frankie Laine, Balladeer/Deuces Wild Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) This is THE album! BALLADEER, by Frankie Laine, is all-time favorite album -- by anybody. Every song on this album has a timeless quality that sounds new and refreshing even today. Officially, they're listed as folk ballands, but there's a good deal of blues (STACK OF BLUES), African rhythm (AND DOESN'T SHE ROLL), and even bluegrass (BLUE) thrown in as well. ROCKS AND GRAVEL is a gritty, chain-gang work song, that has to be heard to be appreciated, and ON A MONDAY (another convict song) far out-distances the Leadbelly original. Frankie sings the opening stanza of CARELESS LOVE without musical backup, for some powerful and poignant results, and the haunting ballad of LUCY D is downright chilling. DEUCES WILD is almost as great and the two albums combine very nicely. THE HARD WAY is a rousing western ballad about a man with some incredibly hard luck (and one of my personal favorites), and Laine's version of CAMPTOWN RACES has got to be the definitive version of this great Stephen Foster classic. Both DEAD MAN'S HAND and the title song (which Laine wrote) provide for memorable narratives about gambling men. Renowned film composer John Williams did the arrangements, and leads the orchestra on this album (and is one of the musicians on BALLADEER). Frankie Laine, Balladeer/Deuces Wild CD music
$30.54 1951 was a breakthrough year for Hank Williams. He had a string of moderate country hits already under his belt, but the release that year of his version of an old jazz age novelty tune called "Lovesick Blues" suddenly made him a big star. It also meant his touring schedule increased, but he still found time that year to slip into Nashville and prerecord shows for the Mother's Best Flour Company. These good-natured and intimate performances were cut to acetate discs and then ...

$14.79 I was born in the Philippine Islands and moved to the United States at age 7.We moved to an artist influenced town called Woodstock,New York. With Bearsville Recording Studio in town, many famous musicians came to town and played local clubs and cafe`s. Being around artists and musicians all my life made an influence on me. I came from a very musical family. My father played piano and had a passion for music. He loved all types of beautiful music. From classical, big bands, latin,Frank Sinatra,Gershwin all types. I sang in choir since age 8. Played guitar since age 10.I studied composition, voice, and music theory in Alameda Calf. One teacher influenced me with Billy Holiday and the Motown sound then R&B.But I played in many Rock and Roll bands. Some were all female. My sister and I were in a dance company doing native dances from the Philippines. Our mother was our manager. I was only 9 years old and a child performer on television and stage. At age 15 I saw Bonnie Raitt perform. I was very influenced by her blues and the way she played electric guitar and slide. Janis Joplin,Bob Dylan,Fleetwood Mac,Shania Twain and Heart( the Wilson sisters really blow me away!) also influenced me. I played in all types of bands.I also soloed quite a bit. I was a fashion designer for the famed Suzy Creamcheese in Las Vegas. Through her I dressed many famous entertainers such as Ann Margaret,Diana Warwick,Shirley Maclaine,Tanya Tucker the Mandrel sisters {when they had their TV show}. In Oct. 2006 I met guitar player Butch Davis with producer and keyboardist Billy Anderson while looking for a studio in Nashville. These two "magicman"{ as I call them} knew exactly what my songs needed to complete. We had such a blast recording "From the Heart". We used Vintage collectible guitars for different songs on the CD. One of them belonged to Waylon Jennings. Butch was the guitar player for ten years with the country singer Tracy Lawrence. He also played with Stonewall Jackson,Billy Walker, and Razzy Bailey. Billy has been a keyboardist for over 35 years. Billy has also played with Stephen Stills and Papa John Creach. I felt and still feel so honored that these two incredible musicians are on my CD. They ...
