True Companion album
$12.39 For better than a quarter-century, first as a major-label artist leading the Iron City Houserockers and later recording for various indie labels, Pittsburgh's Joe Grushecky has struggled to get his hard-rocking, blue-collar style of music heard above the din of fleeting trends, boy bands, and pop divas. The gravel-voiced songwriter has suffered the inevitable Springsteen comparisons, survived bad record deals, played hundreds of shows in dive bars, and, with his first true solo album, Fingerprints, has hung around the industry long enough to play on record alongside his teenage son, Johnny. Although Grushecky might never receive the level of respect that his body of work has earned, it hasn't stopped him from making solid, consistently rocking albums. Stepping out for the first time without the Houserockers band he has fronted ...

| | Warren Zevon Wind CD (2003)
True Companion music CDs
$15.09 THE WIND won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. "Keep Me in Your Heart" was nominated for Song Of The Year and for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. "Disorder in the House" won for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal and was also nominated for Best Rock Song.
With the specter of a terminal lung cancer diagnosis hanging over his head, Warren Zevon responded by rallying to make THE WIND, an album that found him working with longtime collaborator and friend Jorge Calderon, shortly after getting the news. The result is a tight group of 11 songs wrapped up in a year, despite a diagnosis that only gave Zevon three months to live. Along the way, plenty of famous names--both friends and fans--pitched in, including Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Emmylou Harris, Jackson Browne, Dwight Yoakam and Don Henley. Allusions to ...
| | Jimmy Thackery Whiskey Store Live! CD (2004)
True Companion songs
$14.79 The tour to support 2002's Whiskey Store album featuring guitarists Jimmy Thackery and Tab Benoit is captured here in all of its raging six-string glory. Not just for those who own the studio album, this disc repeats six tracks, but they are overhauled and extended so radically (the title cut is nearly tripled in length to a nine-minute blowout), that it's far from a cash-generating retread. Although the formidable Double Trouble rhythm section stayed home, road tested Thackery's saxist Jimmy Carpenter jumps aboard, as does B-3 keyboardist Ken Faltinson, and both ignite the concert sparks substantially. Benoit, who takes the majority of the vocals, brings versions of classics like "I Got Loaded" and Otis Redding's "These Arms of Mine," as well as his own blistering ...

| | Joe Grushecky Good Life CD (2006)
True Companion CD music
$12.39 Joe Grushecky writes like a regular guy for a good reason -- he is one. While Grushecky has had a long career in rock & roll, including a brief flirtation with the major labels as frontman for the Iron City Houserockers, these days he earns his living as a schoolteacher and makes music on the side, which is doubtless why when he writes about the lives of working stiffs and ordinary Joes, the songs bear the ring of truth rather than a sense of condescension. A Good Life is Grushecky's tenth album since the breakup of the Houserockers, and it doesn't break much in the way of new ground, but that isn't a bad thing -- this is solid and heartfelt rust belt rock & roll played and sung by a man who has been doing this stuff and making it stick for quite some time, and he still hasn't lost his passion for what he does. Grushecky also hasn't lost his knack as a songwriter -- in fact, A Good Life is one of his strongest collections of new songs in years. Grushecky's tales of ordinary folks ...

$13.29 This is a very different type of big-band album. Arranger/composer/drummer John Hollenbeck conceives of the 18-piece Jazz Bigband Graz not so much as a jazz big band but as an ensemble-oriented orchestra filled with unusual tone colors that is capable of expressing most emotions. ...
