This DVD feature film stars Molly Ringwald and Randall Batinkoff. In FOR KEEPS, Darcy, a straight A high school student destined for big things, must postpone her plans when she finds out she's pregnant. However, her faithful boyfriend loves her and the two decide to get married, but that triggers even more trouble with their families. In director John G. Avildsen's FOR KEEPS, Darcy (Molly Ringwald) is an aspiring journalist and a college-bound senior, eager to escape the confines of her small town and overbearing mother (Miriam Flynn). Together, with her high school sweetheart Stan (Randall Batinkoff), who is hoping for a scholarship to Cal Tech, they make the perfect senior couple destined for big things. They're on top of the world, in love, and preparing for an idyllic future. Of course, that's before Darcy realizes she's pregnant. Despite the disapproval of their families, Darcy and Stan decide to keep the baby and get married, starting their adulthood a little sooner than they planned. They struggle to finish school while working odd jobs and redecorating their less than comfortable rundown apartment. Of course they have no idea how hard it will be to make it on their own and soon enough the honeymoon is over--diapers are in and late night dates are out. Things just get harder for the young couple--they're forced to put their college dreams on hold and even move into Darcy's mother's house. The pressures of being new parents almost splits the young couple up until they realize how much they really do love one another. Together, they decide to buck the odds and enter college as a new family. This contemporary spin on the modern teen romance features a sweet, heartwarming script and a touching, realistic performance from Ringwald. FOR KEEPS features the first screen appearance of Pauly Shore. For Keeps film
$11.69 All tracks have been digitally remastered using HDCD technology.
Ferry's first solo effort since the second breakup of Roxy Music is arguably his best, in part because it continues in the direction the band had been going. It's like AVALON, only more so.
Here, Ferry's lounge lizard affectations are writ large; the lyrical pose is all bruised romantic fatalism (say hello, "Slave to Love"), and the music fits it like a glove. The album's soundscapes are lush and echo-laden, and nearly every track has a discreet disco pulse; "Valentine," the one exception, is mid-tempo reggae. Overlaid with skittish percussion and guitars, BOYS AND GIRLS is the aural equivalent of a white dinner jacket and a half-empty bottle of champagne.
Personnel: Bryan Ferry (vocals, harmonica, piano); Bryan Ferry; Alfa Anderson Barfield (vocals); Alan Spenner, Mark Knopfler, Neil Hubbard (guitar); Omar Hakim (drums); Chester Kamen, David Gilmore, David Sanborn, Ednah Holt, Fonzi Thornton, Guy Fletcher , Alfa Anderson, Marcus Miller, Martin McCarrick, Neil Jason, Nile Rodgers, Andy Newmark, Ruby Turner, ...
| | Laura Branigan Self Control CD (1984)
For Keeps review
$6.09 Laura Branigan's third album capitalized on the Euro-dance-pop and affecting ballads that made her an international star while allowing her to grow as a vocalist. Her collections, always uneven in terms of material, benefit mostly from her stellar voice, and this is no exception."The Lucky One" and "Heart" start slow and build to a crescendo, perfectly showcasing her range without being obvious. The title track, about finding sex in the seamy side of town, sparked a bit of a controversy, but ended up being her second biggest hit. The song itself works, but Branigan was never a sex bomb, so the fact that she pulls it off is indicative of her power as a performer. "Ti Amo" is the album's theatrical ballad, which works well with breathy, dramatic vocals. She even pulls off a graceful cover of "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" that is clear and simple, while "Breaking Out" and "Take Me" are perfect examples of synthesizer-driven '80s dance ditties. The only slow moments come with "Silent Partners" and "With Every Beat of My Heart," ...

$17.89 Buster Keaton was one of the most loved comedians to come out of the silent era, known for his impassive expression that he maintained through the most outlandish of antics. Born into a family of comedians who traveled and performed with the great magician Harry Houdini, who dubbed the young Keaton "Buster" after the tyke fell down a flight of stairs and emerged unscathed, Keaton was performing alongside his parents by the age of four. He went on to make a name for himself in film, first with Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle and then with with his own Buster Keaton Productions.
