Jack Nitzsche, famed for his work with Phil Spector in the 1960s, arranged and conducted this live record (although some of the tracks sound like they may have been done in the studio). Henske's solo albums all suffered to some degree from too much versatility and too little direction. This is no exception: there's an attempt at White soul ("I've Been Loving You Too Long"), pop/rock numbers with light orchestration, a self-mocking gospel spiritual ("Saved"), a version of "Danny Boy," and semi-standup comedy routines. Henske's got a great down and dirty voice, even on L.A. pop tunes like "Nobody Knows" and the ballad "Sing a Rainbow" (both of which are among the best tracks here). But she really wouldn't find the optimum material for her considerable talents until she teamed up with then-husband Jerry Yester for their minor psychedelic pop masterpiece, Farewell Aldebaran. ~ Richie Unterberger

Death Defying Judy Henske: The First Concert Album album
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield and Stills don't play together on any of the cuts (Bloomfield played on one side of the original LP, Stills on the other), all three principals get off ...

Featuring archival footage of the young Darrell in action, as well as scenes from the heady days of Pantera's enormous success, DIVISION is a comprehensive overview of a much-missed figure in the heavy metal scene.
Welcome to "Dimevision" - a magical kingdom where music, mayhem & mirth merge in a miraculous & mind-blowing manner. In my humble opinion, Dime was, is and always will be Metal's Walt Disney - a dude dedicated to bringing joy into other people's lives. The only difference? In Dime World the music is always crushingly cool, there are no f**kin' lines, each ride's a hellraiser & there's an open bar on every goddamned one!So grab a case of Coors Light, a batch ot Dime's infamous Black Tooth Grins (Seagrams 7 with a splash of coke) and ...

It should come as no surprise that Frank Sinatra would have a special way with Christmas songs just as he did with every other type of song. This welcome reissue is a slightly expanded version of Sinatra's original 1948 Christmas album and includes some 1945 V-Disc holiday performances especially recorded for the troops still stationed in Europe right after the war. The original 78s hold up incredibly well for Christmas music a half-century ...
