Kiwamari Zuki
$10.89 Nearly a decade after Dean Martin's death, the crooner's fans were finally given the definitive Dino collection. While there was already a two-disc summation of Martin's Capitol recordings, as well as several compilations of his Reprise material, the single-disc, 30-track DINO: THE ESSENTIAL DEAN MARTIN contains a generous selection of the best of his work, culling from both labels' vaults. Steubenville, Ohio's favorite son became a singing star in the 1950s, mostly by virtue of ...

| | Winter Blanket Prescription Perils CD (2005)
Kiwamari Zuki
$10.15 During the recording of Prescription Perils,The Winter Blanket, were a band in fluster. Principal songwriters Stephanie Davila and Doug Miller had moved north, from Iowa to Minneapolis, while bassist, Kim Murray and drummer, Paul Blomquist, elected to stay at home in the Quad Cities area. The band found themselves having to rethink their way of operating. Optimization became key as the band now had limited time together for practicing, touring and recording. As their new groove was being tweaked, the four came to realize that a new sound was beginning to emerge. To accomodate, a shake-up was made concerning recording- Alan Sparhawk(Low) had engineered their first two records, though this time they chose to record with local Minneapolis engineer, Tom Herbers, who also moonlights as Low's primary live soundman. This new approach yielded lighter, slightly airier instrumentation. Staples, such as the hushed drumming, warm bass tones, twilight piano and gently strummed guitars were expanded upon by the use of some light cello and banjo. The result is ten pop folk songs that are dynamic, memorable and full of great hooks and quietly understated pop melodies! Limited Edition Ed letterpress sleeve. RIYL: Townes Van Zandt, Cat Power, Ida and Bruce Springsteen...................."There ...

Kiwamari Zuki
$14.79 Valerie Gillespie was born in the beautiful state of Pennsylvania, where at the age of eight she picked up a saxophone for the first time. She was paid for her first professional gig at fourteen and has been playing ever since, though not strictly on the stage. Valerie paid her dues in the university classrooms just like the rest of us, earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh with a major in Classical Saxophone. Not content to stop there, she went on to get her Masters Degree in Jazz Saxophone from the University of South Florida in Tampa. Being a well-rounded player is something that is important to Valerie. She might be seen one night playing classical pieces with the Florida Orchestra, the next evening playing with a jazz band in the park, then on Sunday morning you will usually find her playing at her church. Ask her which of her horns she likes the most and she will certainly say it is her alto sax, a Selmer Mark VI that she bought in 1976 when she was just a young tyke. Since those days she has also acquired ...
