| | Pure CD Hayley Westenra Discography of CDs
(6 Customer Reviews)
On her debut, Hayley Westenra, a 16-year-old singing sensation from New Zealand, endures the inevitable comparisons to Charlotte Church, but it's the impression she's made that's placed her in such lofty company. And not many fledgling artists can boast of having the legendary George Martin contribute songs and arrangements to their album. PURE might be the best description of her singing--crystal clear and devoid of mannerisms. It's not simply the beauty of her voice that impresses, however, but how effectively she uses it.
The precocious soprano demonstrates the poise, versatility, and musical instincts of a seasoned pro. Westenra moves gracefully through a program made up primarily of Euro-pop ballads but also includes arrangements of well-known classical melodies, as well as a pair of Maori songs. Highlights include affecting renditions of "In Trutina" from Carl Orff's 'Carmina Burana' and the traditional spiritual "Amazing Grace." And, in what might be an effort to defy easy categorization, she changes direction on the closing track, and lets loose on Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights." Given such eclectic song choices and Westenra's impressive voice, PURE is certain to bring plenty of attention to this talented young artist.
Recorded at Air Lyndhurst, Eastcote Studios, London, England in 2003.
Personnel: Hayley Westenra (vocals); Giles Martin (guitar, keyboards, programming); Robbie McIntosh, Tony Ingelby (guitar); Dave Hartley (piano); James Brett (keyboards); Steve Pearce, Mark Brown (bass); Andres Kallmark (programming); Mary Hammond (background vocals); Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Honest review for a angelic voice:) Well I am a employee at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa Ontario i am also a performer there, and I was able to hear Hayley in person. It was an experience I will never forget a women with such a unique voice such talent for her age is going to go along way:) I look forward to getting her other albums:) as well as seeing her in person in the future during my visits in NZ. It was a very big challenge to get her album PURE in record stores here as after her stunning performance of being the lead vocalist for Howard Shores music from The Lord Of The Rings. Her album was sold out so get it well its hot I know you will not be disapointed no matter what style of music you enjoy you can not help but give high respect and appreciation for this young angels voice. I am looking forward to seeing her in her home town of ChristChurch next time i go down to visit best wishes Hayley thanks for letting your angelic voice out to speak to so many people.
brightest blessings to all

GGG I really like Hayley's music. I listen to it all the time. I origianally got the cd to help me with my choir class, but as it turns out, i really like the music. My favorite song on the cd is Wurthering Heights, origianally done by Kate Bush. Hayley, your voice is awesome! Keep it coming.

Crystal clear voice Hayley is from New Zealand, so two of her songs are in Maori language (pretty interesting). I stumbled onto her CD at Borders, listened to it, and liked her voice after just two songs! If you heard Sarah Brightman's voice, well Hayley Westenra has a similar voice, but younger and more youthful. My favorite songs are tracks 1, 2, 3, 5, 12. Track 2 "Never Say Goodbye" is awesome... can't stop listening to it! Submitted by Rodney (Hawaii) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Al Stewart Greatest Hits CD (2004)
Pure CD music
$7.89 Over the years, there have been plenty of Al Stewart collections, most featuring the same five or six songs, giving the impression that he's an easy artist to compile. That, however, isn't quite the case. Most of these collections are haphazardly assembled, focusing either on his early elaborate historical story songs or his lush productions of the late '70s and early '80s, choosing songs that were not necessarily hits and not necessarily good showcases for his idiosyncratic gifts. Despite its nondescript (and misleading) title and its cover art, which bewilderingly mimics the cover of Year of the Cat, Rhino's 2004 collection Greatest Hits is the first to truly to capture Stewart at his best, from his baroque British folk-rock in the late '60s to his soft rock hits a decade later. While all his American hits are here, this is more of a "best of" than a hits compilation, since ...
