| | David Bowie Reality CD David Bowie Discography of CDs
(9 Customer Reviews)
"New Killer Star" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance.
This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other.
Based on the success David Bowie had by resurrecting his collaborative relationship with producer Tony Visconti on 2002's stellar HEATHEN, Bowie returned to the well with Visconti for its follow-up, REALITY. The result finds this New York City resident using his adopted hometown and cozy domestic life as impetus for another batch of fine millennial manna.
Featuring the backing of talented musicians such as guitarist Earl Slick, pianist Mike Garson, and drummer Sterling Campbell, the sound that permeates these 11 songs ranges from the SCARY MONSTERS-era shuffle of "Never Get Old" to the stripped-down, late-night lounge aura of "Bring Me the Disco King," a song dappled by Garson's piano runs and dusted off by Bowie after laying around for a decade. Balancing the sorrow of the sparse "The Loneliest Guy" with a sunnier mood, Bowie tips his hat to Jonathan Richman and George Harrison by way of eclectic covers of, respectively, "Pablo Picasso" and "Try Some, Buy Some," a little-known Harrison composition originally cut as a Ronnie Spector single. Avoiding the nostalgia treadmill that's mired down many of his peers, Bowie has instead used REALITY as yet another stepping-stone to latter-day greatness.
This new release, in the dualdisc format offers a full-length CD album on one side and and a DVD featuring the full album, usually in surround sound, along with videos, behind-the-scenes footage and a wide array of bonus material, including lyrics, biographies, PC content and more. Dualdisc format plays on existing CD and DVD players. DVD side features the exclusive film "Reality", along with 4 music videos, a photo gallery, lyrics, biography, discography, ROM content, web links, along with the entire album in 5.1 Surround Sound and enhanced LPCM Stereo.

David Bowie in 5.1 Shocker I've been a Bowie fan all my life, but when I heard this item was only being made available in the US and not in the UK I was a little bit disappointed. Then the announcement on Bowienet, the official website. CD Universe would be stocking this item. I ordered it straight away.
Being familiar with the album doesn't mean there is a lack of surprises when listening to the 5.1 surround mix. It's so crisp, the levels are just right and goes to justly enhance an already almost flawless album. It would have been nice if they had included some of the bonus tracks from the original release, but hey, we can't have everything. Submitted by mar1mar5 (Witham, Essex, UK) Was This Review Helpful? The DB/TV Quality Keeps Coming Reality is the 2nd CD release from DB reunited with talented collaborator Tony Visconti since last working together on the "Cristiane F" soundtrack back in 1981.
Visconti is a perfect match for this DB return to a "stripped down-straight ahead" rock sound-started in 2002 with "Heathen".
The 11 songs contained herein (9 original and 2 well chosen and covered songs) show an adept rock master comfortable in his abilites to write a simply good rock song.
From the bravado of "New Killer Star" to the melancholy of "Bring me the Disco King" Bowie, Visconti and band deliver an excllent album.
The DualDisc realease is an even better example of DB's talent in addition to having the regular album it features the "Reality" short film and an admitedly abbreviated discography (only "Heathen" Bowie's only other ISO/Columbia release)plus a 5.1 Surround Sound mix of the album.
All in all an excellent release.

welcome to reality - this is brilliant I bought this cd in the States. I heard it for the first time on the plane heading on toward Atlanta from Cape Town, South Africa. I never listened to anything else for the rest of the long flight. Tracks 1, 2 and 3 were the best opening tarcks I heard on any album in a long time. The album does not tail off though, each song, is a work of art. If Picasso was a musician, he would have been proud. Pablo Picasso, the 2nd track reeks of brilliance, with a driving tempo and bassline great unexpected instrumental ending. I gathered that this is not a Bowie original, but a cover. I haven't heard it, but who cares? It could not surpass this version original or not. Other album highlights - Fall dog bombs the moon, She'll drive the big car (great stylophone effect), Bring me the disco king - more than just a track deviation, if somewhat of an oddity on this album, still brilliant. "Killing time in the 70's.' clever, reflective lyric in the song. Don't compare this album to Heathen, it is a very differnt album, with a different vibe, energy, mood and tone. Heathen, though, also a definitive work of art, not just another album Submitted by peterpanwashere3 (south africa (west of greenland)) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
My Even Better Reality Great disc!! The Reality CD side is
of course, great. Now I can keep one at the house, and one in the car.
The DVD side is a very interesting watch. I am happy to see some video to go with the songs. It is at once disturbing and fascinating to watch Bowie interview himself - and discuss death. Unfortunately I do not have proper equipment to appreciate the 5.1 sound enhancement. A must have for all. Submitted by brenda (Key West, FL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Purchase Reality CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Tesla Into The Now CD (2004)
Reality
$8.49 Unfairly labeled a hair-metal band, Tesla was always closer to the spirit of vintage 1970s hard rock. When the group released 1994's BUST A NUT, grunge rock was in full swing, and the Sacramento quintet subsequently took their curtain call, keeping busy with low-profile side projects. Testing the waters in 2000, Tesla launched a successful reunion tour, proving the band's enduring appeal. INTO THE NOW stands as their first full-length studio effort in 10 years.
The core of Tesla's sound has been updated with a fresh and contemporary flavor, but it's still very much their own. Jeff Keith's voice retains its heartfelt grit and grease, while guitarists Frank Hannon and Tommy Skeotch have noticeably absorbed some nu-metal influences in the band's downtime. Downtuned, post-grunge riffs drive tracks such as "Miles Away," "Mighty Mouse," and the aptly named title track. Still, Tesla are truly in their element when they tap into the vibe that's endeared them to legions of fans, best evidenced in future classics "Caught Up In A Dream" and "What A Shame."

| | Dave Brubeck For All Time CDs (2004) Box Set
Reality
$36.79 The box set FOR ALL TIME contains: TIME OUT (1959)/TIME FURTHER OUT (1961)/TIME IN OUTER SPACE (1962)/TIME CHANGES (1964)/TIME IN (1966).
Recorded between 1959 & 1966. Includes liner notes by Steve Race, Dan Brubeck, Rayburn Wright, Teo Macero and Dave Brubeck.
This five-CD box set collects all five of the Dave Brubeck Quartet's Time series recordings: Time Out, Time Further Out, Countdown: Time in Outer Space, Time Changes, and Time In, with bonus material attached to three of the discs. Of this quintet of recordings, the latter three have never been available on CD in the United States. Recorded between 1959 and 1965, each of these titles has a distinct relationship to "time travel" in the context of jazz. Brubeck, Paul Desmond, and company were consciously trying to extend the time-space continuum in jazz, and erase the boundaries of imposed four/four signatures in the idiom. Time Out was the first jazz album on which every tune was in a different tempo, and it charted all over the world. Time Further Out netted another hit single with "Unsquare Dance" and its B-side, "It's A Raggy Waltz," a live version of which has been added to the original edition of the album. But these sides have been continually available in one form or another since the dawn of LPs, and were among the first to get the grand remastering treatment in Legacy's ambitious program. From the appearance of Countdown: Time in Outer Space, from 1962 (paying tribute to the new exploration of the last frontier by trying to open up jazz from ...
| | Joe Satriani Is There Love In Space? CD (2004)
Reality
$7.59 Throughout his career, Joe Satriani has managed that rare trick of inspiring worship by guitar acolytes everywhere, while still managing a modicum of crossover appeal to music fans less interested in the technical aspects of his work. His ninth album, IS THERE LOVE IN SPACE?, continues down that same path of serving both the instrumental aficionado and the casual fan. Working with bassist Matt Bissonette and drummer Jeff Campitelli, Satriani quickly switches stylistic gears, flip-flopping between an uber-funky, wah-wah riff and his standard high-flying soloing on "The Souls of Distortion" or running through the brash, drop-tuned menace of "Hands in the Air." Satch's also conjures up "I Like the Rain," a Lone Star boogie that combines a sampled motorcycle engine and a fuzz-tone vocal, and sees him coming off like ZZ Top. Likewise, this Long Island native's eccentric musical whims will have Lenny Kravitz fans doing a double take upon hearing the Lenny-like vocals and chugging ...
| | Van Halen Best Of Both Worlds CDs (2004) Remastered; Digipak
Reality
$16.39 Bursting forth in the late 1970s, Van Halen made its mark by melding the hammering wallop of hard rock with an iconoclastic approach to the guitar. With striking virtuosity, Eddie Van Halen's guitar playing succeeded in turning the heads and dropping the jaws of a wide range of listeners. Matched with the acrobatic energy of frontman David Lee Roth and the formidable rhythm section of bassist Michael Anthony and drummer Alex Van Halen, these combined elements added up to Van Halen's hugely success musical formula.
THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS is a two-disc overview of more than 25 years of Van Halen recordings. The set contains a few of the now-standard new songs included in such offerings. Placed on the first disc, this trio of tunes finds VH's second singer, ...

$8.65 On the group's first major-label full-length album, Autopilot Off delivers the same vital mix of hard-edged emo-core and So-Cal pop-punk as on its self-titled EP and indie-label debut, but ups the ante with extra doses of craft and fuller production values. Unlike many of its Orange Country contemporaries, Autopilot Off forgoes the snotty teenage attitude in favor of unusually well-written, heart-on-the-sleeve lyrics brimming with passion and urgency. In addition, the band isn't ...
