| | Joe Jackson Afterlife CD Joe Jackson Discography of CDs
Los Angeles, California; House Of Blues, Anaheim, California; 4th And B, San Diego, California in 2003.
In 2003, more than two decades after disbanding, the original Joe Jackson Band reunited for a new album and tour, to longtime fans' unending delight. The reggae-influenced, bass-driven band did much to popularize "new wave" in the late 1970s, and after 20-plus years of Jackson dabbling with everything from jump blues to neo-classical orchestrations, the vibrant rock energy of Gary Sanford, Graham Maby, and Dave Houghton is a breath of fresh air. The band puts as much into the songs from the new album as it does into the classics, but unsurprisingly it's those late-'70s rockers that elicit the most emphatic audience response. To hear these hardy rock & roll vets lay into the breathless, punky "Got the Time" or the Kinks-meet-ska archness of "Sunday Papers" with the vigor of young men is to believe in rock as the fountain of youth.

The reviewers tell us what to buy, but the public actually part with the cash. Surely 26 million people cannot be wrong, as original Mac guitarist Peter Green's creation became the prime example of AOR long after his departure. The inner strife and turmoil of the band is credited as having helped to make this ...
| | Joe Jackson 25th Anniversary Live CD (2004)
Afterlife music CDs
$9.19 After nearly a decade of focusing on art song and instrumental music, Joe Jackson signaled his return to the pop/rock realm by titling his 2000 studio album Night and Day II, recalling his biggest commercial hit, 1982's Night and Day. He toured to promote the new collection, but since his record label, Sony Classical, had released Summer in the City: Live in New York several months before Night and Day II, in record company terms, he wasn't due for another live album. Nevertheless, if only to counter bootleggers, in January 2002 he released Two Rainy Nights: Live in the Northwest -- The Official Bootleg on his own Great Big Island label exclusively through his Web site, www.joejackson.com. Leading a seven-piece band consisting of keyboards, ...
| | Graham Parker Your Country CD (2004)
Afterlife songs
$12.49 Despite the implications of the title, YOUR COUNTRY is not exactly a "country" album, though it does find British-born Graham Parker respectfully acknowledging the influence of American country music. There's a higher twang quotient, as well as a slightly loping, shuffling beat, but this is just more of the same wonderful stuff fans have come to appreciate from Parker. YOUR COUNTRY continues in the Parker tradition of reflective, soulful roots-rocking indignation, sung with ...

Harry Chapin was always a bit of a polarizing figure, attracting many dedicated fans but never earning much critical respect. Rhino's comprehensive three-disc box set Story of a Life doesn't really offer an opportunity for re-evaluation, nor does it even try to win over doubters. Instead, it tells a thorough history of Chapin's career, not missing a single hit or major song along the way. There are some rarities scattered throughout the set, mostly live tracks, but also the Chapin Brothers' 1966 single "Someo
