| | Bill Evans At Town Hall CD Bill Evans Discography of CDs
Featuring Evans on solo piano as well as with bass player Chuck Israels (this is the last recording to feature Israels as a regular trio member) and Arnie Wise on drums, BILL EVANS AT TOWN HALL includes the first half of Evans's official New York concert debut in 1966. Evans's father died three days before the performance, and the pianist is not at his nuanced, otherworldly best. However, two original compositions are included--"One For Helen," and the four-part requiem, "In Memory of His Father, Harry L. Evans, 1891-1966." This somber solo piece draws on some earlier material, including its "Epilogue," which was originally recorded on EVERYBODY DIGS BILL EVANS, but the delicate, Satie-tinged "Prologue" is all new, and the central section yielded "Turn Out the Stars," which would become one of Evans's most well-known songs. The entire "In Memory" suite was performed only once again by Evans, in 1968 in memory of Robert Kennedy.
Recorded live at Town Hall, New York, New York on February 21, 1966. Includes liner notes by Eric Salzman, Dan Morgenstern, Helen Keane, Bob Messinger and Richard Seidel.
Digitally remastered by Dennis Drake (Polygram Studios).
CD contains 3 bonus tracks.
Additional Tracks
Personnel: Bill Evans (piano); Chuck Israels (bass); Arnold Wise (drums).

James' early influences include such eclectic artists as The Eagles, James Taylor, and George Jones. This melting pot of musical geniuses steered James down a path of soulful lyricism added with his later influences to create a sound that is unprecedented in the world of music as we know it. "I was playing songs by all these guys at the age of twelve. I started playing and singing when I was 7 years old. My dad was a picker and singer so he taught me all this stuff at that young age. I grew up with it. It was great training."- JL Some of James' later influences include such legendary guitarists as Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Dave Gilmour of Pink Floyd, ...

| | Pete Robbins Waits & Measures CD (2006)
Bill Evans At Town Hall music CDs
$14.79 Pete Robbins' music is consistently intriguing. The rhythms are complex and sometimes rock-oriented though usually more subtle. The improvising by altoist Robbins and Sam Sadigursky on tenor and bass clarinet seems free at times but is often quite melodic and tied in to the individual themes. Robbins' originals are quirky and unusual although not individually memorable. But the freewheeling yet controlled mood of the music is quite original and the main reason that Waits & Measures is recommended. In addition, Elliot Krimsy's versatility on electric piano is an asset. It would be interesting, though, to hear how Pete Robbins dealt with stronger melodies ~ Scott Yanow
Liner Notes to "Waits and Measures":What does modern jazz sound like? Though the answer is as complex and varied as the individual artists performing in today's environment; one thing is for certain; saxophonist Pete Robbins is answering the question in his own way on Waits and Measures.Robbins continues to expose a stylistic and free approach that was first heard on his auspicious 2002 debut (Centric, Telepathy Records. ) The highly enjoyable recording not only showed depth but also a distinct voice that was open to change. It becomes clear as one listens to the new recording that Robbins has an acute understanding of jazz as an art-form but more importantly is striving to create music that is moving in new directions with his ideas of 'Fewer solos, more of a rock feel, more sections per tunes, less "jazzy" harmony,! and letting the band speak through composed sections and not just improvised ones ...' A mindset that is more than likely fueled by his environment and diverse influences. Since moving to New York in 2002 Robbins has flourished in the city's creative music scene performing in a variety of venues and styles such as jazz, avant-garde, experimental, and even playing bass guitar in an indie-rock trio called Tober. This collage of influences permeates the new recording on selections ...
| | Ginger Commodore & GCQ Live!!! At Hot Summer Jazz CD (2007)
Bill Evans At Town Hall songs
$17.75 Ginger Commodore is happy to announce that she is releasing a compilation of some of her most requested songs captured from a live performance at the 2006 Hot Summer Jazz Festival. Three bonus tracks are also included from a prior year's performance at HSJ (including the often requested version of Fever). The song selections will present a capsulated image of who Ginger Commodore is. From straight ahead jazz (I Get a Kick, Who Can I Turn To) to her more R&B side (My Funny Valentine, Sweet Love), with a little blues thrown in as well (Since I Fell For You). And let's not forget her tender side, with her unforgettable treatments of 'Unchained Melody' (in tribute to Little Jimmy Scott) and 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow'. Since recording a holiday CD in 2001 that included various groups (Sounds of Blackness & cast of Smokey Joe's Cafe) and years of singing on other projects, this CD represents her first 'solo' CD. Those whom have witnessed Ginger's live performances and have continually asked 'did you record that?' will have to wait no longer. It is truly fitting that this CD captures the essence of Ginger Commodore in a live performance in a truly great setting. Lee Blaske - Piano , Mark Weisberg - Bass, Kathy Jensen - Sax, & Bobby Commodore - DrumsFrom Ginger CommodoreFirst let me start by acknowledging and thanking my family and friends (too many to name) who have always been my strongest supporters. And a special thank you to my husband Robert, who put in an enormous amount of time and effort to see this project come to life. Live recording is always a gamble, because there are so many things that can affect the outcome. I wasn't sure about my first solo release being a live recording. But, that evening the spirit was right, the sound coming back to me was good, the audience was responsive (yeah dog-pound!) and the musicians were cool as a breeze (on a hot summer jazz night) and played some dynamite stuff! Matt Zimmerman applied the finishing touches for which we are so grateful. So, I hope you enjoy these interpretations of some really great tunes. From Bobby CommodoreIn 1974 I joined the Sounds of Blackness and rehearsed with them every Tuesday and Friday night for a few months. But it wasn't until a performance that February on a cold night in Moorhead, MN that I witnessed and felt the power of emotion a human voice could bring from within me. For on that night I first heard Ginger sing (I Must Tell Jesus), watched what that performance brought over the crowd and I myself became so lost in the ...
