| | Alabama Livin' Lovin' Rockin' Rollin': The 25th Anniversary Collection CDs (2006) Anniversary Edition; Box Set
Best Of Leann Rimes CD music
$27.89 Both wildly popular and remarkably influential, Alabama not only racked up dozens of hits, it set the standard for actual country "groups" (as opposed to individual performers or duos with backing bands), leading the way for acts such as Shenandoah and Sawyer Brown. This catalog-spanning three-disc set draws from every phase of the ensemble's career, offering up both hits and lesser-known songs in a wide range of styles--from hard-edged rock and honky-tonk country to smooth ballads. Most impressively, the collection features live ...

Best Of Leann Rimes CD music
$18.79 American rock musicians showed that purely instrumental performances could be honored into hit singles, without any help from lead singers, way back in the Fifties. It was all part of the rock 'n' roll explosion and despite the adulation for stars like Fabian and Elvis, there was room for players like fine young drummer Sandy Nelson in the charts too. His pounding performance of 'And ...
| | 20 Golden Pieces Of George Jones CD (1972)
Best Of Leann Rimes music CDs
$9.55 It has often been said that George Jones could hold an audience enthralled singing the phone book, but he has considerably more than that to work with here. Merle Haggard's "I Threw Away the Rose," Ernest Tubbs "Soldier's Last Letter," and plenty of his own signature tunes, like "Color of the Blues," "Seasons Of My Heart," and "Lonely Street" are included. The sound quality on GOLDEN PIECES is a little murky, but the quality of music more than makes up for that slight deficiency.
George Jones' illustrious country career can be divided into two periods. The first, which stretched from 1952 to 1969, was defined by "hard" country recordings produced by fellow Texan George "Pappy" Daily; the latter began with Jones' switch to slick "countrypolitan" ...
| | Johnny Horton Makes History CD (1960)
Best Of Leann Rimes songs
$10.55 Anybody who knows Johnny Horton's music prefers his hard honky tonk and rockabilly tunes rather than his novelty hits. That said, even these have their place and Horton scored big with Tillman Franks' "Sink the Bismark" and Jimmie Driftwood's "Battle of New Orleans," and to a lesser degree, with Merle Kilgore's "Johnny Reb." This compilation of ...

| | Offspring Greatest Hits CD (2005)
Best Of Leann Rimes CD music
$10.39 Plenty of SoCal punk diehards decried The Offspring to be "sellouts" when they leapt from cherished indie Epitaph to the major-label stables at Columbia Records. But one listen to this GREATEST HITS compilation points to a band that was never destined to stay underground for long. In crafting clever pop-punk that addressed the concerns of teen skate-punks everywhere, this California quartet cranked out radio-friendly cuts every bit as viable as anything peers like Green Day and Blink 182 were producing during the same time period. Social observations not only poked fun at suburban kids affecting inner-city mannerisms ("Pretty Fly [For a White Guy]"), but gold diggers ("Why Don't You Get a Job?") and the lost opportunities of a younger generation ("The Kids Aren't All right"). The sing-along choruses and irresistible bassline of "Self Esteem" succinctly paint an all-too familiar picture of lovelorn guys getting played by manipulative gals. And there's no denying the chunky, Middle Eastern-flavored hooks that made "Come Out and Play (Keep 'Em Separated)" such a ubiquitous presence on mid-'90s airwaves. A hidden bonus cover of The Police's "Next to You" ...
| | Damnwells Air Stereo CD (2006)
Best Of Leann Rimes music CDs
$13.09 The Damnwells write some of the catchiest hooks you'll hear anywhere. Songs from the Brooklyn band's first full-length, BASTARDS OF THE BEAT, are still probably stuck in some listeners' heads. With their sophomore release, AIR STEREO, the Damnwells incorporate some more pop elements into their roots-rock ...

| | Shit Happens: Songs Of Everyday Life CD (2007) (Import) Import; Digipak; Germany
Best Of Leann Rimes album
$25.25 Yes, this is one time when the title truly does explain it all. This Bear Family set bubbles over with hard-luck tales and tragedy, much of it verging on kitsch -- but it doesn't quite get over the top, at least in terms of maudlin productions. Usually, the tragedy is within the lyrics, as the songs often play as simple unadorned country productions -- probably because there is an abundance of songs by Hank Snow here. Snow accounts for a fifth of the 25 songs, more than the cover star Porter Wagoner, which is just a little bit misleading as Wagoner's melodramatic morality tales may be precisely what listeners ready to purchase an album called Shit Happens: Songs of Everyday Life want to hear. That kind of listener may be disappointed in Shit Happens, as it doesn't have much country corn on the level of George Hamilton IV's somewhat overblown "Little Tom," but those who usually turn to Bear Family for their respectful view on country may like how this manages to celebrate the kitsch in country without getting too tasteless. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
