ANIMA MUNDI, the 2004 release from Euro-metal band Dionysus, includes "Bringer of War" and "Paradise Land."
Arriving exactly a year after their perfectly average debut, Dionysus' second album, Anima Mundi, pushes the limits of surefire lawsuit to the breaking point by slapping the semblance of Viggo Mortensen (in full Lord of the Rings Aragorn regalia) on the statue gracing its cover. It also opens with a song -- the speedy "Divine" -- that heavy metal fans will instantly recognize as a blatant karaoke job on power metal masters Helloween -- only with more synthesizers. But that's OK, after all, the power metal subgenre is hardly given to great variety, and one need only sample astoundingly similar follow-up songs like "Heart Is Crying," "Closer to the Sun," and the title track to realize as much. Then again, it's not entirely fair to accuse Dionysus of playing it safe for that same reason, so it's best to highlight their stellar musicianship, crisp melodies, dazzling solos, and vocalist Olaf Hayer's powerful pipes instead. All of these coalesce quite nicely on the convincingly dramatic "What" and the surprisingly accessible (if terribly corny) "March for Freedom," and there's certainly no denying guitarist Luca Turilli's position as one of the most impressive six-string technicians out there -- the guy's fingers just smoke! In summary, if you love power metal, then you'll think Dionysus are the dog's bollocks, but if you never saw the point of a Keeper of the Seven Keys, Pt. 2, there's nothing for you here. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia

| Anima Mundi Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Breath Taking!!! Being a fan of Dionysus since 'Sign Of Truth,' I can honestly say that this album does not compare. If Dionysus were previously treading the waters in the over populated ocean of Power Metal, then this is the album that they grew wings and soared to the highest of Power Metal plains. Dionysus should now be considered amongst the many Power Metal greats from Gamma Ray and Helloween, to Metalium and Blind Guardian. Olaf Hayer is in top form, and should be considered a elite vocalist in all of Heavy Metal. Dionysus songwriting has improved ten fold, with every song sticking in your head like tar on a new car. The guitarwork and instrumentation is flawless, and will make you think "how they do dat." The production is pristine and provides a much welcomed punch. I can't say enough good things about this album, I am just ashamed that I hadn't picked it up sooner. Submitted by chevdaddy1 (Gwinn, MI) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

finally!! a cd that made me play it more than once! What can i say about this new Dionysus cd? The more i hear it, the more i love it.
Their first effort was very good too but this one is the absolute metal greatness!
Songs like "March for freedom", "Forever more" and "Divine" are not written everyday. But what really made me stand up and headbang (i haven't done this for a long time :)), was the super epic/power/speed hymn called "My heart is crying"! Amazing!! I don't think that even the band can ever write a song like that again (he he sorry guys).
To wrap up, this is better than any of the cd's Olaf made with Luca Turilli and we are lucky to have found a good band like this, who writes damn good songs! And thats all we need. Not progressive/virtuoso/jazzy show-offs but good songs! That's all that matters. BUY IT!!! Submitted by iivorian (Cyprus) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Anima Mundi album
$18.79 Procol Harum's first album was originally released without the inclusion of "A Whiter Shade of Pale," a song that had been a monumental hit just before the LP appeared. In subsequent releases, the running order of the album was slightly changed and "Good Captain Clack" was omitted to make room for the hit that the public expected. What further confused matters was the fact that the debut was available variously as ...
| | Lizzy Borden Menace To Society CD (1986)
Anima Mundi CD music
$9.69 Lizzy Borden's second studio album, following the live The Murderess Metal Road Show by only a few months, is the band's career high point. A nice balance between the energetic but cliché-ridden pop-metal of its debut and the undistinguished Poison ripoffs of its later albums, Menace to Society drops the dopey Spinal Tap-like lyrics of the debut in favor of a less cartoony worldview, and singer Lizzy Borden's vocals are considerably more self-assured and less shrill. The tempos are slower, but they ...
| | Whitesnake Come An Get It CD (Import) United Kingdom
Anima Mundi music CDs
$13.15 Whitesnake, the pop-metal band featuring former Deep Purple singer David Coverdale, released the album COME AN' GET IT in 1981.
Despite the massive talents of vocalist David Coverdale and his supporting cast of musicians (not to mention the unimpeachable resumé of producer Martin Birch), Come an' Get It was another maddeningly average Whitesnake album. A thoroughly boring set that played it too safe and yielded no lasting live favorites, Come an' Get It was competent to the max -- in the hands of a debuting artist, it may have qualified as a classic -- but for a near-supergroup of such experience and pedigree, it instead smacked of severe underachievement. Rare highlights include the driving energy of "Hot Stuff," the lively bar-room piano of "Wine, Women and Song," and the wistful, acoustic balladry of "Till the Day I Die." But these share space with run-of-the-mill bluesy rockers like "Don't Break My Heart Again" and "Would I Lie to You" -- all of them hard to fault, but equally impossible to praise. Yawn! Even the quasi-epic "Child of Babylon" fails to live up to initial promise, a half-hearted effort that easily defines the entire ...

Anima Mundi songs
$16.29 A SALTY DOG...PLUS contains the complete 1969 original release plus 6 rare or previously unreleased bonus tracks.
This German import reissue is packaged in a digipak and contains the bonus track "Long Gone Geek."
Procol Harum, who reached an astounding peak with their 1967 debut, achieved further heights with each successive release up to A SALTY DOG, their third. This album mixes heartfelt singing with orchestral grandeur and an R&B-based rhythm section (B.J. Wilson is one of the great unsung drummers of the '60s and '70s). The band easily and honestly moves from the symphonic mini-epic of the title track to the bluesy "The Milk of Human ...
