Krieg Gegen Die Machinen album
$21.19 In THE CITY OF LOST CHILDREN, an imaginative fantasy from the creators of DELICATESSEN, a prematurely aging mad scientist named Krank (Daniel Emilfork) kidnaps children so he can steal their dreams. However, Krank runs into trouble when his henchmen grab Denrée (Joseph Lucien), a little boy whose adopted brother, One (Ron Perelman), is a circus strongman. One desperately tries to find Denrée and begs for help from Miette (Judith Vittet), a 9-year-old girl who heads up a gang of orphans. Together, One and Miette finally find Krank's castle, meeting along the way the lost identical brother--the original--of the three clones (each played by Dominique Pinon) who serve as Krank's assistants.
French directors Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet once again prove their technical prowess with this dark fairy tale, which ...

Krieg Gegen Die Machinen CD music
$13.29 Starting an industrial dance album with a mock-classical organ recital isn't the easiest of propositions, but when Grothesk kicks his arrangement in gear fully with the EBM pulse and beat of "Love Never Dies (Part 1)," then 7 hits its stride and for the most part doesn't lose it. By this point, Grothesk and his act had moved from being inspired by a sound to being one of the few straight-up practitioners of it, and like the best of his own heroes, his range of inspirations had widened considerably. KMFDM may have sampled Orff's "Carmina Burana" first, but the inclusion of source material ranging from the Shadows and Red House Painters to Aphex Twin is reflected in the just-varied-enough flow of the album. The prime Depeche Mode-inspired jones of Grothesk, in particular, is showcased to wonderful effect ...

Krieg Gegen Die Machinen album
$13.29 With his previous two records, Assemblage 23's Tom Shear has proven to be one of the most consistent artists in EBM. Though it varies little from Defiance and is just a notch below Failure in terms of impact, Storm can certainly stand on its own. The lyrics are just as powerful as anything Shear has written and, set to cosmic synth and propulsive dance beats, they create an emotional tidal wave of pain and loss. ...

Krieg Gegen Die Machinen CD music
$34.55 Adapted from Frank Miller's graphic novels, SIN CITY is Robert Rodriguez's striking film noir infused with fantasy, taking place in a world where it is eternally nighttime and everything is drenched in rain and violence. Using a unique combination of silvery black and white digital photography with occasional flashes of bright color for dazzling punctuation, Rodriguez employs green screen techniques and paints a backdrop around each scene, using Miller's co-direction as his cue to match the original setting as closely as possible. Three stories weave together, occasionally overlapping. With lines delivered flatly in the hard-boiled style of Raymond Chandler, these tales are about crime, love, loss, and being preternaturally ...

| | Fito Paez Circo Beat (Beat Circus) CD (1995)
Krieg Gegen Die Machinen songs
$9.79 Circo Beat is a natural follow-up to the critically acclaimed El Amor Despues del Amor, from 1993. The sound and tone of the two albums are very similar, trending far more towards pop than rock, though Circo Beat is simpler, lighter and more heavily produced. Typically lush, free flowing pop songs are "Lo Que Viento Nunca Se Llevo" and "Mariposa Tecknicolor," with the latter being one of the best tracks ever recorded by Fito Paez and a prime example of his special ability to write songs that sound both happy and melancholic at the same time. The airy "Normal 1" is another highlight of the album while the gentle and jazzy "Las Tardes del Sol, Las Noches del Agua" and "Nadie Detiene Al Amor en un Lugar" breaks the general pattern and mood of the album together with the nice ballad "Dejarlas Partir." Enjoyable from start to finish, Circo Beat is very even, without any weak moments, but with some very strong tracks that stand out from the rest. ~ Philip Jandovsky
Personnel: Fito Páez (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Simon Clark (flute, alto saxophone, baritone saxophone); ...
