| | Allman Brothers Band One Way Out: Live At The Beacon Theater CD Allman Brothers Band Discography of CDs
(10 Customer Reviews)
ONE WAY OUT can be seen as a sequel to the Allman Brothers Band's 2000 live album, PEAKIN' AT THE BEACON. Both albums were recorded within a couple of years of each other during the band's legendary annual Beacon residencies, but PEAKIN' marked the end of founding member Dickey Betts's tenure and mainly featured older material. In contrast, the group's first live album with new guitarist Derek Trucks (founding drummer Butch Trucks's nephew) draws much of its material from the '03 studio album, HITTIN' THE NOTE. Consequently, when the band lays into the elegiac "Old Before My Time" or the blues barn-burner "Woman Across the River," there's a freshness to it that hadn't been felt in the Allman camp for some time. Of course, the revamped Allmans can still tear into a staple like "Whipping Post" with imposing ferocity, Greg Allman's voice having gained gravitas with age. That can't be a bad thing for somebody who dedicates his life to singing the blues.

Steven Bio:Billboard Magazine describes Steven Gellman's music as "intensely sensitive and impressively intelligent at the same time". As another reviewer aptly phrased it, Gellman's songs are "Kodak moments" from his life.He often performs in nursing homes and retirement communities, and even used a choir of senior citizens as backup ...

| | Don't Mourn - Organize! Songs Of Labor, Songwriter Joe Hill. CD (1990)
One Way Out: Live At The Beacon Theater
$14.29 The inclusion of Joan Baez's version of "Joe Hill" on the Woodstock album has been single-handedly responsible for keeping Joe Hill in the public consciousness. Sad but true, for Joe Hill, poet, songwriter, and organizer, was the most popular intentionally proletarian artist in American culture. Not an easy feat, especially considering how many people have tried to be popular proletarian artists. This album, named after Joe Hill's famous last words before he was executed by the State of Utah, is a testament to Hill's power as a musical and cultural figure. It also attempts to secure his place in our memory; Baez won't last forever, of course. The album consists of two elements, Hill songs performed by important interpreters and songs about Hill, again in historically important performances. Among the former, number Harry McClintock singing "The Preacher and the Slave," Pete Seeger doing "Casey Jones (The Union Scab)," and Cisco Houston's version of "The Tramp." The latter category contains the more varied and more interesting contributions. Among these are poet Kenneth ...

| | Enda Spacious CD (2000)
One Way Out: Live At The Beacon Theater
$10.15 The essence of Enda may lie in skirting the line between ostensible opposites. First off, the San Francisco quartet's sound is tough to pin down. Though Enda defy comparison with any singular band, they effortlessly intertwine the gothic atmosphere of the Cure, the alt-rock power and swagger of the Smashing Pumpkins, the dream-core sensibilities of Lush, and the dark ambiance of A Perfect Circle and latter-day Deftones. One factor in Enda's varied musical style may lie in the group's racially-diverse mix of two men and two women. Enda's guitarists/vocalists/songwriters Valerie Moorhead and Jennifer Yee formed The Vicious Sweet in high school and went on to release the album Obsessively Yours with various temporary ...
