| | Red Peters Ol' Blue Balls Is Back CD Red Peters Discography of CDs
Red Peters' synthesized orchestra sounds fuller on Ol' Blue Balls Is Back, the hapless lounge singer's second collection of sleazy novelty tunes. Peters plays up his unaware attitude this time, making his blue and gross material easier to take. Most of the tracks consist of one long joke or one long double entendre, but that's what you buy a Peters record for. There are a couple more stories this time, and narrator Alan Pinchloaf returns, but there are no big hits like I Laughed, I Cried, I Fudged My Undies' "Ballad of a Dog Named Stains" or "How's Your Whole...Family?" Still, the production is better and Peters' sophomore effort makes more of an effort to be a flowing album rather than just a collection of songs. Newcomers should start with his overall funnier debut, but fans get a fuller sounding album that should satisfy. ~ David Jeffries

Ol' Blue Balls Is Back
$8.29 A faux retrospective (hosted by a Mr. Alan Pinchloaf) of the naughty and sleazy lounge singer Red Peters, I Laughed, I Cried, I Fudged My Undies is a party record for when the kids go to bed. Peters takes double entendres (sometimes gross, almost always sexual) and stretches them into songs. That's it. That's all he does. Over and over. He's not even what you'd call "clever" and most of these jokes go back to bawdy vaudeville. But Peters is well aware of how simple and stupid his material is and that's what makes the album so much fun. His lounge singer character is a defeated guy who, according to Mr. Pinchloaf, spiraled down his career to the point of entertaining at a Tourette's syndrome benefit (this is the live recording ...

Tina Arena's slow-developing international career must be a source of frustration to Sony Music. Given the pop singer/songwriter's success in her native Australia, where In Deep, her second Epic album, became a number one hit upon its release in August 1997, the obvious plan is to turn her into a down-under Celine Dion. In that pursuit, this American reconfiguration has added "If I Was a River," written by Diane Warren (who wrote Dion's "Because You Loved Me") and produced by Walter Afanasieff, who also produces Dion and Mariah Carey, as well as a duet with Marc Anthony on "I Want to Spend My Lifetime Loving You," written by James Horner and Will Jennings (who wrote Dion's "My Heart Will Go On"). The album was produced in typically gargantuan fashion by Jim Steinman, and "Lifetime" was used in the 1998 film The Mask of Zorro. Actually, Arena is not the next Dion, and she doesn't ...
