A collection of re-recordings, remixes of re-recordings, and a couple original tracks from the lackluster Don't Be Afraid, Pure Energy: The Very Best Of is at best an easy way to collect all the compilation appearances Information Society did for the Cleopatra label. Those looking for the original recordings should seek out the band's recordings for the Tommy Boy label. ~ David Jeffries
Watch out, the Cleopatra record label is up to their old tricks. The only original recordings on Pure Energy: The Very Best Of are from Don't Be Afraid, a lackluster album Information Society recorded for Cleopatra in 1997. Otherwise, this is all re-recordings and remixes from the usual stable of Cleopatra remixers. The new version of the group's biggest hit, "What's on Your Mind (Pure Energy)" is sterile and one of Kurt Harland's worst vocal performances. The remix improves the big hit re-recording a bit but the rest of the remixes focus on the slight "goth" side of the band and are absolutely no fun. The cover version of "Are 'Friends' Electric?" with Gary Numan on guest vocals and the sickly version of Madonna's "Express Yourself" have already appeared on numerous Cleopatra compilations, and you're better off without them. Worst of all, the string interlude that segued the tracks "Empty 3.0" and "Closing in 2.0" on Don't Be Afraid is broken by a two-second gap of silence, suggesting the label ripped their own CDs and forgot to the master the disc using "Disc at Once" (if that means nothing to you, ask a PC-friendly teenager). It's a jarring error, easy to hear, and a hint that even the folks at Cleopatra couldn't stand to listen to these re-recordings again. ~ David Jeffries

It has the one Song i was looking for called "Ozar Midrashim" (Music to Legacy Of Kain : Soul Reaver) But the rest of the Music on the CD is also great. You realy should get this. If you want a dark Gothic music. this is the CD for you. Submitted by KITG (Norfolk England) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Almost five from an InSoc fan The real reason I can not give this a five is due to the fact that I already own Don't be afraid. This album really just added two or three remixed songs from InSocs past to Don't be afraid. Now maybe if Kurt Harland where really involved on this one, he might have chosen some better remixes or even more old stuff to smooth this album out. Now if he was involved, shame on him for letting this one out after so much progresion from campy pop over at Tommy and then to dark and mornfull with Cleopatra, to release this album agrivated me except for the remixes. Kurt, where are you dude? Submitted by gimple (Hawaii) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
This is NOT an Info Soc Produced CD What's On Your Mind (Pure Energy) is a cheap knock off of the original. Sounds like a midi song with someone singing over the original vocals. And they don't always match up. The samples are replaced by some bored dude saying them in a dry voice. Horrible quality!
Peace and Love, Inc. is even worse! Bad sound, bad mix, bad quality.
The CD just gets worse with each song. At first, I thought it would just take some time to get used to it, but the more I listened to it, the more I wanted to hear the original Information Society and throw this CD out the window!
If you are looking for quality remixes, this is NOT the CD to get. These are cheap mixes that sound like someone downloaded some midi versions and took them to a karakoe bar to record the vocals.
Stay away from this CD if you are a true fan of Information Society! Submitted by atom (Wisconsin, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Pure Energy: The Very Best Of songs
$11.65 Deee-Lite is often seen as a one-hit wonder, albeit a brilliant one hit; the phenomenal "Groove Is in the Heart" is one of those great, giddy pleasures that defined a time and transcended it. The thing is, that wasn't the end of the Deee-Lite story, even if it was undeniably their chart pinnacle, because their dizzy, ironically hippified second-summer-of-love dance music was overflowing with delights: sonic thrills from DJ Towa Tei and DJ Dmitry and clever sexiness from Lady Miss Kier. This was most evident on their mini-classic debut, World Clique, but their next two albums had their merits, and all of them are featured ...
