Rabbitt were seen as being South Africa's equivalent of the Beatles in The seventies and in fact the band actually outsold the Beatles, which in this day and age seems incredible.

Boys Will Be Boys album
$11.82 There must have been something in the water in 1970s Memphis. Not only did the town turn out an unprecedented amount of great R&B, it also hosted a sterling power-pop scene including Big Star, Tommy Hoehn, Van Duren, and Anglophile quartet the Scruffs. Led by McCartney-esque vocalist Stephen Burns, the Scruffs mixed Beatle worship, Big Star-ish rockers, and Raspberries-like pop on their 1977 debut album, WANNA MEET THE SCRUFFS? which became a power-pop cult classic. The Scruffs split up in ...

| | Automatic Man CD (1976)
Boys Will Be Boys songs
$13.85 Space rockers Automatic Man (featuring Santanna's dynamite drummer, Michael Shrieve) get their 1976 debut remastered in all its progressive glory.
After making his name with Santana (remember his solo on "Soul Sacrifice" at Woodstock?), drummer Michael Shrieve did some experimenting with Stomu Yamashta and then turned to this four-piece, which ...

| | Automatic Man Visitors CD (1977)
Boys Will Be Boys CD music
$13.85 With its second and final album, Visitors, Automatic Man unveiled a new lineup. Lead singer/keyboardist Bayeté (real name: Todd Cochrane) and guitarist Pat Thrall were still on board, but bassist Doni Harvey and former Santana drummer Michael Shrieve were gone-and their replacements were bassist Jerome Rimson and drummer Glenn Symmonds. The Bay Area quartet was still interracial (half white, half black), but with the personnel changes came a more commercial approach. While Automatic Man's self-titled debut album of 1976 was an uncompromising, fairly abstract effort that had to be accepted on its own terms, Visitors finds the band making its progressive rock/space rock funkier and more accessible. Automatic Man definitely increased the funk/soul factor on this LP, and tunes like "Daughter of Neptune" and "Give It to Me" have an immediacy and a directness that the first album lacked. This isn't to say that Visitors is a better album; Automatic Man was the more creative and risk-taking ...
| | Shark Quest Man On Stilts CD (2000)
Boys Will Be Boys music CDs
$13.85 With the emergence in the 1990s and 2000s of Scenic, Friends of Dean Martinez, Vivid Low Sky (the last of whom, like Shark Quest, are also from Chapel Hill), and now Shark Quest, there seems to be a mini-vogue for instrumental indie rock with a cinematic, desert-sweeping grandeur. This mine-genre is so small (and probably unlucrative) that it's impossible to accuse Shark Quest of bandwagon jumping. Nonetheless, for those familiar with the other acts named above, they'll spark unavoidable comparisons. Not so much to Vivid Low Sky (who, despite sharing the same hometown, have a harsher and more dissonant rock aesthetic) as to Friends of Dean Martinez, in the bent for twanging guitars and a certain Southwestern border feel. With both Friends of Dean Martinez and Scenic, there's ...
| | Gomez In Our Gun CD (2002) Bonus Tracks; Japan
Boys Will Be Boys songs
$37.25 Japanese edition that has two bonus tracks: "Silhouettes" and "Coltrane."
British darlings Gomez first came to public attention in the late '90s with their combination of contemporary Britpop and '60s psychedelic rock. To be fair to this quite modern band, a slight resemblance to the odd Traffic tune was about the extent of their flirtation with psychedelia. IN OUR GUN seems to find Gomez moving further away from those '60s roots without abandoning them altogether. Burbling synthesizers rub shoulders ...

| | Nits Hat CD (1988) (Import)
Boys Will Be Boys songs
$11.79 You won't find many more minimalist titles than those listed on the sleeve of the Nits' 1988 mini-album, Hat. These include "Blue," "The Train," "The Dream," "The House," and, inevitably, "The Hat." A total of six tracks, with five definite articles and two adjectives between them. Lyrics are similarly minimalist and often take the form of fragments of recollected dreams and memories in which everyday scenes and objects trigger feelings of loss and melancholy. It's perhaps surprising, then, that for such an austerely conceived project, the Nits again came up with some of their most enduring work. Opener "The Train," whose rolling rhythm matches that of its subject matter, boasts a breezy, instantly memorable melody framed by Robert Jan Stips' exultant piccolo-synth and, at one point, samples of wheels on tracks and screeching brakes. Hat's other undoubted masterpiece is "The Bauhaus Chair," a poignant melody, beautifully sung by Henk Hofstede (though his inability to master the English "th" sound is particularly intrusive here) and rounded off by a richly resonant ...

| | Introducing Joss Stone CD (2007) With DVD; Deluxe Edition; Digipak
Boys Will Be Boys CD music
$18.85 This is an Deluxe edition Of "INTRODUCING JOSS STONE". Includes Bonus DVD.
British soul-pop singer Joss Stone was originally marketed as the teenage second coming of 1970s soul stars like Betty Everett and Ann Peebles. After two albums in that style (one consisting entirely of obscure soul covers) and a U.S. marketing push including several commercials for the Gap, Stone withdrew for a couple of years. INTRODUCING JOSS STONE, from the title onward, is an attempt to completely reinvent Stone's public persona, from a retro-soul blonde to a hip, happening redhead with her finger directly on the pulse of 2007 chart pop.
