$6.49 If you don't have eclectic taste in music, soundtracks can present a problem. Sometimes a soundtrack will focus on one style of music exclusively, but most of the time, a director will use any types of music he/she finds useful -- regardless of genre. The director's job isn't catering to those who limit themselves to one genre of music -- it's selecting any music that enables him/her to tell the story well. So if a director finds that everything from heavy ...

This 1992 CD is a soundtrack to the film BAD CHANNELS by the rock group Blue Oyster Cult.
"Music composed and performed by Blue Öyster Cult," reads the credit for this soundtrack, and that turns out to mean two actual BÖC songs, 19 instrumental excerpts, the longest of which is under two-and-a-half-minutes, and nine songs by otherwise anonymous heavy metal groups. There's a lot of music here -- the disc runs over 71 minutes -- but little of it is memorable. ~ William Ruhlmann

| | Tony Crombie Man From Interpol CD (2005) (Import) Original Soundtrack; United Kingdom
Souvenir De France Soundtrack album
$27.59 There's no question, listening to this music, that the producers of The Man from Interpol series were trying for the same kind of appeal that Henry Mancini's music had generated for Peter Gunn on American television -- hence their choice of self-taught jazz drummer and pianist Tony Crombie (1925-2001) as composer, arranger, and leader in the recordings for the music from the series. The music isn't bad programmatic jazz, a bit old-fashioned on the big-band side of things, and sometimes rather ...
| | Jackie Brenston Mistreater CD (2007)
Souvenir De France Soundtrack CD music
$17.45 If ever there were a case of the record overshadowing the artist, it would be Jackie Brenston's "Rocket 88." Often cited as arguably the first rock & roll record, this 1951 chart-topping R&B hit was Brenston's only commercially successful recording. Even when "Rocket 88" is discussed -- and it does come up in rock histories pretty often -- Brenston is often dismissed as a footnote to his own landmark, with pianist/bandleader Ike Turner's role in the recording getting more ink, Brenston sometimes characterized as a journeyman who lucked into the spotlight almost by chance. This 24-track collection of 1951-1956 Brenston sides does much to fill out the picture of this singer, who might have ultimately been something of a journeyman R&B vocalist, but wasn't as inconsequential as some critics have opined. As you'd expect, "Rocket 88" itself is the highlight of this anthology; much of his other material was average if fairly gritty jump blues, sometimes obviously attempting to replicate the "Rocket ...
