| | Wishbone Ash Pilgrimage CD Wishbone Ash Discography of CDs
Wishbone Ash's sophomore release, Pilgrimage, unveiled their creative genius after a debut that merely presented them as a boogie- and blues-based rock outfit. The opening track, "Vas Dis," with its jazz bassline, slicing rhythm guitar, and gibberish vocals was their answer to "Hocus Pocus" by Focus (or vice versa as both were released in 1971). "Jail Bait" has gone on to become a Wishbone Ash staple as well as possessing one of the more memorable guitar riffs of '70s rock & roll. A conscientious effort seemed to be in place for this band to write and perform material better suited to their gentler vocal tendencies. Where Wishbone Ash essentially went full tilt throughout, Pilgrimage is a moodier affair that includes beautiful, slower melodies like the brief instrumentals "Alone" and "Lullaby" along with the chilling "Valediction," which should have been an Ash classic but is rarely featured on live and hits collections. Even though this band toned it down a bit for this album, their impressive guitar playing was heightened due to the variance in their songwriting. Next to Argus this is the Wishbone Ash album to judge all other Ash albums by. ~ Dave Sleger

Pilgrimage songs
$10.49 There's no shortage of legendary producers in line to work with music world titans U2; when work with Rick Rubin broke off, Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois stepped in. The resulting NO LINE ON THE HORIZON, 2009's offering from the Irish rockers, continues in the grand U2 tradition, as soaring pop anthems like opening single "Get on Your Boots" pair with experimental melanges like "Tripoli," on a striking album featuring touches of all the albums come before, yet hinting at new worlds for Bono to conquer.
After spending the 1990s experimenting with electronic music and returning to arena-ready rock during the first few years of the 21st century, U2 stakes out territory somewhere between those two points on 2009's ...

Pilgrimage CD music
$6.09 This 1998 reissue contains 5 bonus tracks (including the previously
unreleased "White Christmas") not included on the original release.
John Denver's music always had a warm, home-spun quality to it, so it isn't surprising that his 1975 holiday effort, Rocky Mountain Christmas, is a wonderfully low-key and friendly Christmas album. Divided between classic carols and new numbers, such as the fine "Aspenglow" and "Christmas for Cowboys," the ...
| | Ralph Sutton & Kenny Davern CD (1998)
Pilgrimage music CDs
$14.15 This CD reissue combines two full LPs originally recorded for the Chaz Jazz label, with pianist Ralph Sutton and clarinetist Kenny Davern joined by Gus Johnson on drums. Traditional jazz fans will delight in Sutton's powerful brand of stride piano (the bass is never missed), yet he is also a very effective accompanist who can play a soft ballad with the best of them. Davern's always lyrical clarinet explores a wider range than most trad jazz players. Things get underway at a fast clip with "That's A-Plenty," followed by ...
| | Roger Hodgson Hai Hai CD (1987) Import
Pilgrimage songs
$13.29 With this release,Hodgson dove head first into the '80s sound, both with production and instruments. Gone was the music of Supertramp(long, drawn-out prog/art rock pieces), and in its place, '80s dance-pop, not unlikeWang Chung. Hodgson wanted to leave the past behind him, and with the help of top session players (including drummer Jeff Porcaro), he seemed to want to branch out and experiment with other forms of music, such as reggae, pop, dance, and synth pop. The problem is that for the most part, it did not work. The songs lack the melodies that he is capable of writing, and the lyrics are at times juvenile and embarrassing (for example "Who's Afraid," or "My Magazine"). He may have had ...
| | Zao Parade Of Chaos CD (2002)
Pilgrimage album
$13.49 Parade of Chaos has been hailed as influential metal-core group Zao's final studio album, and while it may lack the intensity that earlier works from the band have embodied, it is a fitting departure for one of the hardcore scene's most valuable players. Frontman Daniel Weyandt returned to contribute vocals after his previous departure, ...
| | Vernon Garrett I Made My Own World: The Kent/Modern Recordings CD (2003) (Import) United Kingdom
Pilgrimage CD music
$16.99 Vernon Garrett is a gravel-voiced soul journeyman, recording from the '60s until the present, never striking gold but always cutting soulful and often great sides. I Made My Own World is a collection of his work from the 1960s (with a track or three from the '70s, too), both on his own and as a duo with his wife, Jewel. His best-known track is the lush, aching "If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time" from 1966. The version Kent uses here is an alternate take featuring a slightly different vocal. Why not the original version, one might ask. Perhaps it is to attract collectors to the disc, but it is annoying that the original version is not included. The other solo tracks are a mix of Motown-flavored pop-soul ("Slow and Easy," "You and Me Together"), nasty funk ("I've Learned My Lesson," "One Man's Loss"), bluesy ballads ("I Made My Own World"), and a great '70s track, "To Be a Part of You," which has a pounding tribal beat and a sweet vocal hook. It could have been a big hit if someone like the Spinners released it. The tracks with Jewel date from the mid-'60s and are slightly less successful than Garrett's solo tracks, but still fun. Most of the songs are lightweight R&B fodder and Garrett's voice is sometimes too heavy for fun songs like "Just to Hold My Hand" or "Let the Good Times Roll." The tracks like "You're So Fine" and the manic "In My Heart" that rock harder and let Garrett and the equally tough Jewel cut loose are much better. A handful of tracks come from a live club date from 1964. It is cool to hear much fun Vernon and Jewel ...
