$14.79 GEORGE LESIW BAND VENTURES DEEP INTO BLUES-BASED JAZZ FUSION TERRITORY ON EXPLOSIVE DEBUT ‘ANUTA WAS HERE’Progressive New England Based Trio, Primed To Take TheirExciting Improvisations Nationwide, Has Electrified Thousands Of Fans Via Hundreds Of High Profile East Coast Dates At Such Hotspots As Toad’s Place In New Haven and Acme Underground in NYCElectric Guitarist George Lesiw, Acoustic Bassist Preston Murphy and Drummer Gil Hawkins, Jr. Forge a Sound That’s “Slightly Outside the Mainstream, But Burns Like Crazy”Thousands of fans of in your face, honest to goodness, rockin’ jazz fusion better get ready for an explosive earful now that The George Lesiw Band is exploding from its East Coast cocoon and hitting the national circuit. Over the past five years, the progressive trioâ€"electric guitarist/composer Lesiw, acoustic bassist Preston Murphy and drummer Gil Hawkins, Jr.â€"have forged a wild, off the beaten path sound Hawkins likes to say is “slightly out of the mainstream, but burns like crazy.” Based alternately in Connecticut and Boston, they’ve developed a loyal following with hundreds of gigs throughout the Northeast at a unique array of hotspots, ranging from famed clubs like Toad’s Place in New Haven to Café 9 (also in New Haven), The Middle East in Cambridge, Mass., and Acme Underground In New York. Ask any of their legion of fans--there’s nothing like hearing The George Lesiw Band live. But the group’s dynamic debut CD Anuta Was Hereâ€"named for Lesiw’s ex-wife, who plays electric guitar on the nine-track collection and composed four of the tunesâ€"is a perfect snapshot of a multi-faceted, adventurous unit that’s constantly evolving and charting new territory. The artistically expansive project combines the true improvisational essence of jazz, the daring electricity of classic guitar-based fusion and the gritty fire of rockin’ blues. The title of “Blue Skeleton” refers to its hybrid sound, a 12 bar blues form featuring more complex jazz changes; “Gone By The Woodbine,” whose name comes from an expression Lesiw’s grandfather always used, incorporates a fascinating eight tone row (pitches that don’t relate to any one scale) as the foundational bassline. ...

| | Kristen Short Loan CD (2007)
Perfect Progress Perfect Destruction
$14.19 Throughout her childhood years, Kristen Short was an avid writer and published poet with a strong love of music, but when she co-wrote her first song with sister and acoustic guitarist Marlene Weindorf-Ek in 1991, she sensed her poetry had found its home in lyrics. “My sister was my creative spark,” Short reflects. “Discovering the ability to sing my poetry became a moving, fulfilling and deeply personal outlet of expression for me.”In the years that followed Kristen Short delved wholeheartedly into songwriting, live performances, and studio production of her original music. She released her debut CD in January 1998, Blossom In The Dust. Although Kristen had intended the primary recordings of the songs of Blossom to be for demo purposes, the response to live performances of the songs of Blossom and the original recordings was extremely heartening, and Kristen was encouraged by listening audiences to make the collection available for purchase. Blossom is cited by listeners as a relaxing, mellow adult contemporary/easy listening CD with heartfelt lyrics, memorable melodies and stirring harmonies. Kristen comments, “The songs of Blossom were a personal odyssey for me. I wrote them to try to make sense of the difficulties in life I was going through. The prevailing message in the songs of Blossom is that hope, love, courage and faith will overcome difficulties. They have for me.” Kristen traveled to Nashville in March 1998 and met with several music producers, publishers, and up-and-coming artists, which was an informative and ultimately reassuring trip that Kristen feels was very fruitful to her musical progression. While sitting on a park bench in the plush indoor gardens of the Nashville Opryland Hotel, Kristen penned “The Woman You Need,” a wistful song of longing with emotion-filled vocals on her second CD of adult contemporary/folk rock music, Dove In A Hurricane, released in 2000 on her own label, Sea Siren Records®. Dove evidences Kristen’s seasoned vocals and maturing songwriting and has been touted by listeners as a sampler of great-to-listen-to music. Listening audiences have likened the style of Kristen’s vocals ...
