| | Early Rock From New Zealand, Vol. 9-10 CD - Import
This two-disc set contains 47 tracks of vintage early rock & roll from the vaults of Ron Dalton's Viking Records, New Zealand's largest independent label. A lot of the cuts are covers of American hits, and may suffer somewhat in comparison to the originals, but nothing here is embarrassing, and at times, as in Dinah Lee's version of Ricky Nelson's "I'm Walkin'" (which grafts the song over the top of a speeded-up rhythm track based on the Beatles' "I Want to Hold Your Hand"), things get pretty interesting. There are several R&B/surf instrumentals here as well, including guitar wiz Peter Posa's wonderful and kinetic "The White Rabbit." Judge Waynes' sneering vocal on "Little Miss Rhythm & Blues" makes it another highlight. Fans of early rock & roll will find a lot to like on these two discs, and these tracks serve to remind listeners that rock & roll became a global phenomenon almost right from the start. ~ Steve Leggett Early Rock From New Zealand, Vol. 9-10 Music Early Rock From New Zealand, Vol. 9-10 Review

| | Anthrax Among The Living CDs (1987) With DVD; Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Early Rock From New Zealand, Vol. 9-10 music CDs
$21.94 When Anthrax released AMONG THE LIVING in 1987, the band was a part of a then-burgeoning heavy metal sub-genre called speed or thrash metal. This was an inversion of glam metal. The band members wore worn-out jeans and T-shirts, their long hair was hairspray-free, and not a smudge of make-up was applied to their unsightly mugs. Their music was dense, borrowing speed from punk and hardcore and mammoth guitar riffing from metal, and featured thought-provoking lyrics. AMONG THE LIVING not only served as Anthrax's commercial breakthrough, but (along with seminal releases by Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer) the album brought this new musical ...

| | Roland Orzabal Tomcats Screaming Outside CD (2001) Import
Early Rock From New Zealand, Vol. 9-10 music CDs
$12.79 Tears for Fears' Roland Orzabal is a musical actor, an abstract poet, and a music connoisseur. His lush lyrical imagery has provided vivid imagism and an emotion sparked from his own inquisitive nature since fronting one of the '80s' biggest acts. Creative differences and signature arrogance allowed he and bandmate Curt Smith's musical magic to dissolve after 1989's The Seeds of Love, making Orzabal's solo days fronting Tears for Fears to be disenchanting and practically forced. And despite rumor of the duo coming back together to write and perform under the moniker that made them a staple among the charts, Orzabal issued his first proper debut album just after the dawn of the millennium. Tomcats Screaming Outside illustrates Orzabal's bright mind with classic philosophical disposition; however, he's honest and eager, no longer concerned with the past. He refrains from psychologically picking his mind apart; rather, he's plucking from social indifference and its want for quick desire. His focus on sharp electronics and the uncomplicated nature of songs such as "Hypnoculture" and "For the Love of Cain" present Orzabal's newfound comfort. He's still ambitious, yes, but not arrogantly so. "Dandelion" grazes ...
