Night Grooves: Party Jams album
$38.09 DREAMS is a 4-CD box set compiling in chronological order tracks by the Allman Brothers Band, as well as tracks by bands featuring one or more member of the Allman Brothers Band and solo performances by Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts.
Recorded between 1966 & 1988. Includes a 32-page illustrated booklet and liner notes by John Swenson.
Like nearly all box sets, DREAMS has plenty to recommend it-and a few nagging drawbacks. The set's chief shortcoming is its two conflicting goals: providing an overview of the Allmans' history, thus attracting buyers seeking the ultimate hits package, and including enough unreleased tracks and ...
| | Jeff Lorber Philly Style CD (2003)
Night Grooves: Party Jams CD music
$13.39 The soul-jazz minded keyboardist has been a legendary pop-fusion and smooth-jazz artist for several decades, and producer Steven Dubin had been a huge smooth-jazz force for several years (working with Peter White, Richard Elliot and Najee). The two Philadelphia natives never crossed paths (despite having gone to the same high school and played the same clubs), however, until Lorber hired him to work on his album Kickin' It. This disc continues the fun, feisty and funky retro-soul vibe of that disc in an even fuller celebration of their Phillyness. Lorber is so well known for his old school Rhodes textures (which were "new school" when he first did them in the 70s) that it's nice to hear so much classy acoustic ...
| | David Benoit Benoit/Freeman Project 2 CD (2004)
Night Grooves: Party Jams music CDs
$9.65 Creatively, David Benoit has had his ups and downs over the years. The pianist/keyboardist has recorded more than his share of forgettable smooth jazz albums, but he has also provided some decent straight-ahead discs that were greatly influenced by Bill Evans (the pianist, not the saxophonist). This 2004 release, however, doesn't fall into either category -- Benoit/Freeman Project 2, a collaboration with guitarist Russ Freeman, isn't straight-ahead acoustic jazz, but it isn't an album of mindless "elevator Muzak" either. For the most part, this CD could be described as "smooth ...

Night Grooves: Party Jams songs
$18.19 Recorded live at The Guinness Spot, Belfast, Ireland on November 7 & 8, 1996. Includes liner notes by Frank Tate.
When live jazz is played as well as it is on Live in Belfast, it's easy to say nice things about the music. Bass player Frank Tate leads a hot band featuring guitarist Howard Alden, tenor Harry Allen, pianist Dave McKenna, and drummer Butch Miles. The set was recorded during two live dates in Belfast in 1996 before a crowd that knew good jazz when they heard it. The band kick-starts this set with "Four Brothers," a swinging tune filled with eight minutes of breezy solos, ...

| | Mojo Nation Everybody Loves A Happy Ending CD (2008)
Night Grooves: Party Jams album
$9.85 Named after a blisteringly, funky original song, Mojo Nation was born in the Washington, DC area in early 2005. Multi-instrumentalist/songwriter/vocalist Steve Sidley and drummer Ted Ray founded the group after the dissolution of their previous band (everyone's favorite east coast power funk trio - Sam's House) a year earlier. With firm roots in the world of rock and funk, Steve and Ted began their excellent adventure by incorporating electronics and drum loops to create a densely layered sound that also included reggae, hip hop and most anything else they found lying around Ted's basement floor. After driving down a few guitar related cul-de-sacs, R&B/Jazz guitarist Earl Carter (formerly of E.U. - remember that song "Da Butt"?) joined the fold adding an even wider palette of tonal colors from jazzy funk to blistering rock. After Ted Ray's untimely death in the summer of 2005, drummer Mike Corbett entered the picture bringing his hard hitting style of rock and soul timekeeping to the band's evolving sound. The year 2007 saw Mojo Nation film a live three song DVD and record their debut full length release, "Everybody Loves a Happy Ending." Featuring 13 original songs including the single "Absolution" and mixed by Doug ...
