Alta Madrugada CD music
$13.79 Italian vocalist Laura Pausini became a worldwide sensation during the first 10 years of her recording career (although her success in America is minimal compared to Europe and Latin America). PRIMAVERA IN ANTICIPO, released in 2008 in both Italian and Spanish versions, extends Pausini's command over ...

Alta Madrugada songs
$15.15 Celtic Woman, initially a one-shot collaboration by six leading Irish vocalists for a 2004 PBS special, struck a chord of adoration for the Emerald Isle, a fancy affecting both sides of the Atlantic, and swiftly became a permanent collective. THE GREATEST JOURNEY captures many of the best moments of elegant harmonizing by the act, from their serene and rapturous take on ...

| | World Psychedelic Classics 3: Love's A Real Thing: The Funky, Fuzzy Sounds Of West Africa CD (2005)
Alta Madrugada CD music
$10.55 Love's a Real Thing is an excellent introduction into the wild sound world of West Africa in the '70s. As Ronnie Graham points out in his superb liner notes, the '60s were a time of assimilation for much of the popular music of Africa. Many bands were playing a hybrid of Latin and African music typified by the Congolese rhumba of Franco & OK Jazz. The '70s were a different bag, though, with the heavy electric sounds of Jimi Hendrix, James Brown, Cream, and others seeping into the consciousness of a new generation of Africans who were also contending with their own emerging sense of identity. The results are raucous, exuberant melting pots of funky soul, psychedelic rock, and honey-sweet Latin horns mixed through the sensibilities of extremely talented African bands on the cusp of developing styles like soukous, mbalax, and Afro-beat. Senegal's Star Band Number One (aka Etoile de Dakar and confusingly billed here as No. 1 de No. 1), were already seasoned veterans by the dawn of the 1970s, and the sound of their "Guajira Van" with its sinewy fuzz guitar solo and talking drum stabs is glorious proto-mbalax. Elsewhere, there are songs more directly inspired by rock and soul. "Allah Wakbarr" by Ofo & the Black Company has a heavy acid rock guitar lead competing with a conga drum for the top of the mix. The title cut, "Love's a Real Thing" by Gambia's Super Eagles, is ...
| | Jackyl Relentless CD (2002)
Alta Madrugada music CDs
$10.39 It's been said time and time again about the Jackyl boys -- they arrived on the scene at the wrong time. Possessing a heavy yet commercial sound (with a biker/Southern rock vibe), Jackyl enjoyed their 15 minutes of fame in the early '90s, but if they'd appeared a few years earlier, they may have been able to challenge Skid Row and Mötley Crüe for upper chart placement. No matter, the band continues to chug along, dropping ...

| | Three 6 Mafia Most Known Unknown CD (2005)
Alta Madrugada CD music
$19.79 Memphis's Three 6 Mafia had been slugging it out for over a decade and a half before they really hit the mainstream consciousness with their exhilarating performance at the 2006 Academy Awards. 2005's MOST KNOWN HITS is an appropriate introduction to the group led by Juicy J and DJ Paul. The album features album highlights dating back to 1997 and their album CHAPTER 2: WORLD DOMINATION, generally considered their breakthrough-it was certainly the first that made them a name outside of regional radio. Three 6's songs do tend to begin sounding the same: Simple 808 beats under mostly sparse synths, as the rappers boast about bitches and weed, while threatening their detractors. This type of hip-hop is made for parties, and thus the greatest-hits package finds hits like "Sippin' on Some Syrup" and "Hit a Muthafucka" better served than on their respective albums where they might get lost amid the ...
