Ozric Tentacles: Ed (guitar, keyboards); Steve Hillage, Miquette Giraudi (guitar) John (silver flutes); Seaweed (synthesizer); Zia, Brandi Wynne (bass); Schoo (drums); Merv Pepler (programming). Recorded at Stretchy Studios, Somerset, England. Personnel: Ed Wynne (guitar, keyboards, programming); Steve Hillage (guitar, synthesizer); John Egan (flute, duduk, ney); Seaweed (synthesizer, sound effects); Merv Pepler (drum programming, sampler). Recording information: Lab UFO; Stretchy Studios, Somerset, England. Editor: Brandi Wynne. Unknown Contributor Role: Brandi Wynne. Spirals in Hyperspace completes the movement initiated since Ozric Tentacles' comeback: the group is now the sole creature of Ed Wynne, who handles guitar, keyboards, and beat programming. Old travelers like Seaweed, John Egan, Schoo, and even Steve Hillage lend a hand on two or three cuts each, but the group has definitely moved from a fierce live unit to a more clinical studio project -- and it can be heard on this album. The sleek production doesn't hide a high level of predictability and a certain coldness in the execution. Still, Spirals in Hyperspace is a good late-vintage Ozric opus. In fact, anyone would refute all of the above upon listening to the hard-driving opener, "Chewier": fast-paced and exciting, it sounds like something out of Erpland but with a harder, Magna Carta-trademarked edge. It's also an exception: the track features Schoo on real drums, Seaweed, Egan, and Brandi Wynne on glide bass -- the closest to a group effort you'll witness on this album. "Oakum" and "Zoemetra" come close, though, both in terms of extra personnel and genuine drive -- the latter in particular features some great light-speed drumming and a typical Middle Eastern melody. The other pieces fall in the "lukewarm" category, occasionally veering toward clichéd ambient trance. "Toka Tola" and the title track stand out as particularly potent cuts, but Ozric Tentacles' back catalog is filled with similar tunes. In short, Spirals in Hyperspace has its moments and is a satisfying album in itself, but if you look at the group's long discography, it shows a certain level of fatigue. ~ François Couture

Spirals In Hyperspace Music Ozric Tentacles Spirals In Hyperspace Songs Spirals In Hyperspace Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Eternal Bliss The Ozric Tentacles never cease to amaze and this latest installment in their lengthy musical catalogue is another gem. Keyboards, bass, guitar, drums and flute all mix together to create unique soundscapes the likes of which are rarely heard. These songs are long as well - most are seven to nine minutes long - giving the listener an extensive glimpse into their ever-evolving sound. The production quality is stellar and every little nuance is captured. 22 years into their career they still continue to make awe-inspiring music. Definitely check this one out! Ok, so I'm biased..... As my favorite band in the universe, everything Ozrics do is great to me, so I have little to complain about with Spirals In Hyperspace.
Once again, Ed and company have created a spirally, spacey, spliffy, swirly work of art that projects the listener to another realm [wonderfully familiar territory for me]. Reminiscent more of Waterfall Cities than any other work to my ears, this cd is ever more electronic than the last, and hints at the bands progression in that direction. No bad thing there. And like their previous studio effort, The Hidden Step, every minute enjoyable to me.
Spirals almost rated 4 out of 5 stars for me due to the lack of live percussion and bass guitar on all but about 3 tracks. A minor complaint, as the programmed drums and bass are still outstanding. Add to that a notable absence of the exotic flutes et al that we've come to love over the last twenty odd years of Ozric magic, and the rest is all good. Well, except for the fact that this cd was a whole 4 years in the making, but I digress...
The standout piece is most definitely the title track, the longest and by far the most progressive on the cd. I cannot get the opening bass line out of my head! Anyone who has seen Live At The Pongmaster's Ball [A must have for all fans] might notice that a bit of this song was previewed during the soundcheck footage in the documentary.
Another highlight is the appearance of Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy [System 7] on "Akasha," a very cool collaboration I've wanted to hear for a long time, as Hillage's influence has always been obvious in Ozric's music.
To wrap it, if you are a major Ozric fan like me, you will NOT be disappointed! Submitted by dimensionaltraveler (Lost in central Texas...) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Spirals In Hyperspace
$6.39 The Corrs: Jim Corr (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Sharon Corr (vocals, violin); Andrea Corr (vocals, tin whistle); Caroline Corr (vocals, drums, bodhran, percussion). Recorded at Ardmore Studios in Dublin, Ireland in January 2002. You knew the Corrs had made it when they played the final JFK Awards ceremony of the Clinton administration. Playing it would have been achievement enough, but their status as a happening thing was cemented at the end of the ceremony, during the encores, when everybody was taking their final bows. Bill moseyed up over to Andrea, put his arm around her, and when she was looking away, sized her up -- at precisely the same moment Chuck Berry was checking her out. If that doesn't mean that you've broken America, entering its pop culture, I don't know what does, expect for maybe a VH1-endorsed piece of product like Live in Dublin. Lo and behold, that's exactly what the Corrs received in the spring of 2002, ...
