On Hard Time for Dreamers, Miami's See Venus debuts their light and airy indie pop sound. From the elegant opener "Trust" to the frolic of the closer "Shine Like Stars," the band shows a commitment to style and substance throughout. Singer Rocky Ordonez showcases her soft vocal approach, which effortlessly glides through the disc, serving as the band's secret weapon. They pick up the pace on "I'll Bet You Know," though the pace remains remarkably bubbly and carefree, while "Boy Bubble Blue" shines seamlessly with an undeniably dreamy quality. "You & Me" and "Each and Every Word" cement the album's tone of graceful and unfiltered indie pop. The band's sparkling instrumental sound is crafted by bassist Eric Rasco, percussionist Chris O'Malley, guitarist Christopher Moll, multi-instrumentalist Eddie Alonso and guitarist Ordonez, while various members take turns on keyboards and vibraphone, among others. A slew of guest musicians also appear. The album's clarity and clean mixes add up to an impressive first serving from one of indie pop's rising stars. Recorded at various times between 2000 and 2003, March Records released Hard Time for Dreamers in early 2004. ~ Stephen Cramer

Hard Time For Dreamers
$17.57 Of the "big four" original thrash bands (the other three being Metallica, Anthrax, and Megadeth), Slayer was the least compromising and most consistent. As such, 2009's WORLD PAINTED BLOOD recalled more than the title of Slayer's 1986 masterpiece REIGN IN BLOOD; it shared the earlier album's ferocious aggression and trademark speed metal-meets-hardcore ...
| | John Mayer Battle Studies CD (2009)
Hard Time For Dreamers
$11.18 It's no secret that John Mayer is a 21st Century Fox, wining and dining women all through tabloid headlines, so it's about time he delivered an album that traded upon his loverman persona -- and Battle Studies is that record in spades. Retaining more than a modicum of the slick, soul-blues undertones of Continuum, Mayer fashions a modern groove album, a record that maintains a smooth seductive vibe so thoroughly it spills into a one-man band cover of "Crossroads." Mayer remains somewhat of a disciple of Slowhand, but he shows an unusual interest in the big AOR stylings of Journeyman, along with Stevie Ray Vaughan's In Step, creating a coolly clean blend of synths and Strats, one that's as much about texture as it is about song.something perfectly appropriate for a make-out album like this. Sometimes, Mayer dips too heavily toward the texture, but he can't resist ...

| | Nirvana Live At Reading CD (2009)
Hard Time For Dreamers
$11.16 Certain concerts create a legend as soon as the final note ceases to ring. Nirvana's headlining appearance at the 1992 Reading Festival is one of these shows, a concert that arrived at precisely the right moment and stands as testament to a band at the peak of its powers...and right before things started to turn sour within the Nirvana camp. Despite the happy news of the birth of Frances Bean Cobain a mere 12 days before this August 30 festival, rumors swirled around Nirvana right up until the band hit the stage. Kurt Cobain took full advantage of these scurrilous stories, making his entrance in a hospital gown and wheelchair pushed by journalist Everett True. Cobain feebly reached for the microphone to croak out the opening lines of "The Rose," only to collapse onto the stage, milking the drama for a moment before leading Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl through a ferocious "Breed." This impish sense of humor has been obscured over the years, lost under the weight of the band's tragic legacy, along with the fact that Nirvana could actually be fun as well ...

Hard Time For Dreamers
$11.79 After a recording alliance with producer Andy Paley spawned John Wesley Harding's first two studio albums for Sire, the singer/songwriter had suffered more Elvis Costello comparisons than anyone should have to endure. While such assessments were largely due to the vocal similarities of both Wes and E.C. -- plus the fact that some of the Attractions had played on 1990's widely acclaimed Here Comes the Groom -- a loyal and burgeoning pack of fans found Harding's material to be genuine enough to hang in there. While some of those same disciples were ...
