Liars songs Product Information
Liars album for sale by Todd Rundgren was released Apr 06, 2004 on the Sanctuary label. Long before Prince came along, Todd Rundgren was one of the original one-man-band prodigies, right alongside Stevie Wonder. Over the years, Rundgren's hermetic genius has grown ever more willful and techno-savvy, so that 2004's LIARS might even be seen as a less funky analogue of the man from Minneapolis. A quirky sense of humor is displayed on several cuts, but that's nothing new for the man who released "Some Folks Is Even Whiter Than Me" in 1972. Liars CD music contains a single disc with 14 songs. ...See Full Description

||A brilliant outting from a master of the form|
Todd Rundgren has long been one of those artists you either like or dislike. This depends heavily on factors such as when you were introduced to his recordings or with what songs you became aware of him. For those who, like me, became a fan of his more experimental musical outtings during the mid 1970's, then you were probably willing to buy into any direction his talent would take him. Through the years, Todd has grown and matured and ever tried to be both "pop" and avant garde. This latest work is nothing short of brilliant. The overarching theme is truth and the, as he states in the liner notes, paucity of same. The songs, as with most of his songs over the years, reveal themselves more to you with each additional listening. If you are a fan of his works from the last decade, then you will be thrilled with the accessibility of this disc and then even more rewarded as you allow the songs to reveal themselves to you. The style is certainly reminiscent of The Individualist and aspects of One Long Year. I cannot say it is his best, as I can never decide what his best is and would likely give 5 stars to all of his solo efforts. Not to be missed.

I have always found Todd original and refreshing, his commentary on the state of existence is consistently enlightening,humorous and uplifting. He is a real white soul-brother from Upper Darby. and though you can take the boy out of Philly, you cannot take Philly out of the boy! I don't want to live in a world without the likes of Rundgren, and Motown. his new cd LIARS is a tonic for what ails ya in todays barrage of pop music.

||best Todd album in years|
Upon initial listening I thought "a litle weird but good" The second and third listenings I realized this is a fantastic album with the kind of melodies we "old Something Anything fogies" could listen to over and over. Todd's voice is better than ever--he certainly doesn't sound like he's 55. Oh, by the way, there is enough "Philly Soul" to really make you feel great.

I'm seriously into jazz, actually been for decades. Some of it has to do with this commercial pop world being full of trendy three-minute crap, music that sounds like simple songs for children, endless stupid choruses, stuff that simply can not be taken seriously. But that never happens with Todd (or another genius, David Sylvian)! What a great songwriter he is: year after year he suprises with timeless stuff that can take listening, and even gets better year after year. In this new one I hear lots of echoes from the 2nd Wind -album, the one that was put down by some arrogant critics. That stuff may have been a rough diamond, but still a diamond , like this new one. And I simply love Todd's voice (who could do it better, f. ex. on track 8) ; if I could sing, I would do it the way he does, really!! The only thing that I think about is that he is using a lot of machines instead of real musicians (he's had great guys in his projects during times), but on this Liars -album I wouldn't worry about that too much: even his "techno" stuff is completely Todd. I'm glad that everyone here is rating this album five stars, cause if someone deserves it, then let that be Todd! Seppo Innanen, Finland.

||A rebuttal to my own review|
In my review, "A Todd CD that matters... ," I chastised Rundgren for the song "Flaw." I take that back. I recently saw Todd do the song live. The song actually works well in a live setting; there it is quite funny. It just does not come off as funny on the CD. The LIARS concert could possibly be the best Todd Rundgren show ever. Although, some folks who wrongly believed that Rundgren is simply a pop singer departed after the first few intense musical offerings (and thus missed the lighter "Al Green" portion of the show. HA!) A DVD must certainly be in the works. In the meantime, BUY THIS CD!!!
