Machine Punch Through: Singles Collection album
$10.45 STARS is a collection containing several different single versions, new edits and 2 previously unreleased tracks.
After hitting the top of the U.S, alternative charts with their debut album, EVERYONE ELSE IS DOING IT SO WHY CAN'T WE?, with its inescapable hit singles "Dreams" and "Linger," the Cranberries could easily have carved out a career staying with that initial sound, one that came off like a much more commercial version of the Cocteau Twins. That they didn't do, instead introducing their second album with a harsh political protest song called "Zombie" that perhaps lost them some ...

All the hits are here in endearingly ragged versions. The album's highpoint however has to be the intro to the most overtly garage-like song of the set, "Slow Down Boogie," in which while exhorting the audience to raise their hands in the air, make some noise, etc., bassist Fred Turner actually manages to use the word "boogie" seven times. There's also the bonus of a 1998 Bachman interview that provides some droll anecdotes about the genesis of the band.
When guitarist Randy Bachman left Canadian hitmakers the Guess Who, he formed Bachman-Turner Overdrive, whose catchy, crunchy hard rock was a complete departure from the more polished sound of his previous band. Recorded live in Chicago in 1974, this performance from the classic-rock mainstays includes the classics "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" and "Let It Ride," presented in digitally remastered glory for the DVD-Audio format.

The Mavericks shook up country music in the 1990s with their combination of snappy, neo-traditional honky tonk and un-ironic retro pop-rock styles, and then went on an extended hiatus. 2003's THE MAVERICKS (not to be confused with their eponymous debut album) finds them resuming where they left off--they present a tight, accomplished but heartfelt program of winsome ballads ("A Little Too Lonely"), Cuban-influenced numbers ("Shine A Light"), and classic '70s pop (a lovely cover of the Hollies hit "The Air That I Breathe"). As a bonus, the original "maverick" of country music, Willie Nelson, ...
