Beth Waters is a performing singer/songwriter/pianist from San Francisco, California. Waters released her second full-length album, "Beth Waters", nationally in March 2004.Produced by Michael Winger (Tim Bluhm of The Mother Hips), the album is collection of twelve songs with delicately blend piano, voice, acoustic and electronic elements into a warm spacious sound. Waters appropriately self-titles this album because of the lyrical content. The album features drumming by Ben Mize formerly of The Counting Crows, is mixed by Joel Jaffe at the legendary "Studio D" (Sausalito, CA) and was mastered at "The Plant Mastering Studio" (Sausalito, CA) by John Cuniberti. The album is already attracting the attention the entertainment industry and press. "Sweaters," the lead track from Waters' new album, was featured in its entirety in a January 2004 episode of Lifetime Television's drama "1-800-Missing." Another song from Waters' new album, "Blue and White," was featured in an episode of The WB Network's "One Tree Hill" in December 2003. In the March 2004 issue of Performing Songwriter, Clay Steakley writes, "These songs glimmer like a glass of red wine in candlelight. They're dark, rich and whisperingly intimate. A virtuosic blend of moody Tori Amos piano work and Sarah McLachlan harmony bending, Waters' self-titled release is startling in its depth of texture and lyric...Waters has a firm grasp on the power in the dynamics of her playing and the close, secretive delivery of her vocals." Waters was also featured in the November 2003 issue of Jane Magazine, the Nov/Dec 2003 issue of Women Who Rock Magazine and the Winter 2003 issue of Independent Musician Magazine. "Sweaters" was also published in, "New Songs For Peace," an official United Nations program in November 2003. "Sweaters" has been airing on San Francisco radio waves on both KFOG 104.5 FM and KPFA 94.1 FM. Waters has performed at such notable venues as The Chronicle Pavilion (Concord CA) opening for Savage Garden, The Roxy (Los Angeles CA), The Knitting Factory (Hollywood CA), Slim's (San Francisco CA) opening for Stereophonics, Freight and Salvage (Berkeley CA) and Mississippi Studio's (Portland OR). The San Francisco Chronicle calls Beth's music, "...gorgeous, bittersweet...if given the right care, could someday devour VH1."The album "Beth Waters" was named Best Female Singer/Songwriter CD of 2001-2003 by the Indie Acoustic Project. Beth was also a finalist in Billboard Magazine's Independent Music World Series held in January 2004 at the Knitting Factory in Los Angeles. Beth Waters Songs | 1. | Sweaters |

| Beth Waters Music Review Average Rating: (3.5 out of 5 stars) ONE OF MY FAVORITE CDs OUT OF 500 This is my review on Amazon and if you want to read more realistic reviews of this CD, that is a good site to visit. I have no idea what CD the first reviewer was listening to, but it surely couldn't have been this one.
I am always looking for new female artists to listen to, as that is my favorite genre by far. I love the sounds of Tori, Sarah, and Alanis. I saw this on the shelf at a local Tower Records and made it a point to go back home and sample some cuts of Beth on the internet. I was taken in immediately with the first couple of 30-second cuts. So much so, that I ran right back out to Tower to by the disc.
Not many CDs blow me away right out of the wrapper, but to say this one did would be a huge understatement. This CD instantly became one of my favorite CDs out of my many hundreds of discs and I played it over an over (and still do). I liked every single song on the CD and started ordering copies for friends and family around the country that also like the same genre. Every single person I sent it to had a very similar reaction as mine. They were just amazed at everything Beth could do from her incredible piano, to her beautiful lyrics, to her superb voice.
Beth is actually a local performer here in the San Francisco Bay area and I have seen her several times. She is excellent in concert and, to me, it is just a matter of time until she is a famous musician/singer/songwriter. That is why I try to see her as often as I can, as there will come a time when many people will wish they had seen her in these intimate settings when they had the chance.
Well, I think I am running out of adjectives. All I can say is that if you like this genre of music, I find it just about impossible to think that you will not be completely amazed with this CD. And, if you live in the Bay area, I highly recommend monitoring her website regularly to find her upcoming local performances so you can see her close up, while you still can. Enjoy!!! Out of her depth Disappointing CD from an artist being compared with the likes of Sarah McLachlan, Tara Maclean, Jewel etc. It starts off well enough with the tracks Sweaters and Spun Sugar but thereafter it's downhill most of the way. Blue and White halts the slide but only temporarily.
Most of the songs on this album are too wordy and it soon becomes tiresome to listen to. The tracks are nearly all of similar tempo and with the constant use of the piano they tend to just drift into each other. There is little spark to lift the gloom and a lack of strong choruses or memorable hooks do not help either.
Having said all this, I do feel that there is potential here as Beth does have a good voice. If she could introduce more variation into her music and possibly work alongside someone with a better ear for a good melody then a stronger album could be in the offering. I promise not to repeat things other people tell me to repeat!" This is Steve Martin in action. He says something somewhat pseudo-intellectual followed by something silly, observation of the moment in tow. Throughout the Wild & Crazy Guy compilation, Steve Martin continuously caps on himself for being a comedian. "It's really great to be here... There's nothing like doing the same thing over and over again every night for two weeks in a row." Self-reflective, one of his gimmicks is to put on the super suave act and compliment that by then turning into a complete imbecile. (Reference the movie The Jerk for a more complete definition of the phrase "complete imbecile.") Not only do his jokes fall into this unique-to-him format, but the album itself is set up the same way. The first half of the compilation is a series of ...
