Mystery Classics 50 Movie Pack Movie Review Average Rating: (4.2 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Well Worth the Price If you enjoy the old black and white mystery thrillers from the '30's and 40's, this dvd will give you many hours of enjoyment. Some of the movies are well-known, such as the Bulldog Drummond and Sherlock Holmes films; others are obscure and definitiely oddball such as Detour and Mystery Liner. If old, corny, black and white's are your cup of tea, this DVD will give you more than your money's worth. Submitted by mdes1 (Newtown Square, PA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? My Folks Love It. This turned out to be a terrific gift for my parents, who are in their 70's. They are really delighted with seeing all their "old favorite" detective mystery stars again. It's a "win" in the gifts category. Submitted by Ben Stotnova (East Haddam, CT) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$7.45 This faithful adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne's 1851 novel about a woman who is forced to wear a scarlet letter A on her bosom because she has an illicit affair is a damning depiction of Puritan life in 17th Century Salem, Massachusetts. When her husband Roger (Henry B. Walthall in the same role he played in the 1926 version) is declared dead after being missing for years, Hester Prynne (Colleen Moore in her last film) falls into the arms of Reverend Dimmesdale (Hardie Albright). She delivers a child out of wedlock and is tortured by the prudish residents of her town when they ostracize her from the community and taunt her as ...

$9.79 Director Christopher Columbus (MRS. DOUBTFIRE, HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE) adapts the hit Broadway musical of the same name to the big screen in RENT. A modern spin on the opera LA BOHEME, RENT tells the story of eight friends dealing with life and love in Manhattan's Alphabet City in 1989. Wannabe filmmaker Mark (Anthony Rapp) and singer/songwriter Roger (Adam Pascal) are facing eviction at the hands of their former roommate and current landlord, Benny (Taye Diggs). Benny has married rich, moved out of the neighborhood, and wants to build a state-of-the-art studio where the local tent city stands. Their downstairs neighbor, vivacious Mimi (Rosario Dawson), who strips at a local club to feed her heroin habit, takes a shine to Roger, a self-imposed recluse and former junkie whose last girlfriend died of AIDS. Their friend, Collins (Jesse L. Martin), returns to town and quickly falls for Angel (Wilson Jermaine Heredia), a glamorous, gracious, HIV positive transvestite. Finally, there is Maureen (Idina Menzel), a spitfire and performance artist who is planning a protest against Benny's plans and has dumped Mark for cerebral Joanne (Tracie Thoms), a lawyer.
Over the course of a year, the friends face poverty, drug addiction, break-ups, reconciliations, eviction, and AIDS. Despite these challenges, they find support, hope, and acceptance in each other, all the while embracing the bohemian lifestyle that was so much a part of the Lower East Side. Newcomers Dawson ...
