Palo A Palo album
$6.75 Originally released on Motown Records. Includes liner notes by A. Scott Galloway.
An 11-song snapshot of the Dazz Band's Motown stint that includes the not-often-featured "To the Roof," whose origins date back to "Take It to the Woof" by Cleveland, OH-based funk band Morning Maniac led by ex-Dazz Band member Kenny Pettus who's the lead voice on the Earth, Wind and Fire-ish "I Might As Well Forget About Loving You." But other than that, there are no surprises, just straight-ahead digitally remastered Dazz Band blasts that blow you away in CD format ("Let It Whip"'s bassline is hypnotizing). For lovers, "Invitation to Love" and "Knock, Knock" are bonafide ...
| | Marc Anthony Valio La Pena CD (2004)
Palo A Palo CD music
$9.99 The result is a short, spirited record, completely different from its predecessor. The biggest change comes on the duet "Escapemonos" (performed with Jennifer Lopez), where Anthony augments the former ballad with horns and a funky Latin beat. Anthony has always been a Renaissance man, juggling an acting career with his multifaceted recording legacy, but, on VALIO LA PENA, he truly reveals his inventive nature.
Throughout his career, Marc Anthony has moved between his love for salsa and his passion for romantic ...
| | Kinito Mendez Celebra Conmigo CD (2004)
Palo A Palo music CDs
$8.55 With nearly a decade as a solo recording artist under his belt, Kinito Mendez's popularity in his native Dominican Republic is hard won, and hence quite stable. Eight albums as a solo artist and collaborations with several popular groups to his credit qualifies Mendez as a veteran of the merengue genre. Unfortunately, Kinito's large and loyal fan base did not result in chart success for his 2004 release, with only one track, "Hony Tu Si Jony," landing a spot on Billboard. With mixed success like that, it comes as a bit of a surprise that Celebra Conmigo was nominated for a Latin Grammy in the year of its release. Though he did not win the award, the nomination was certainly a feather in Kinito's cap. Musically, Celebra Conmigo is an aptly named joy-filled dance party from start to finish. With the exception of the sultry "Cuando Tengo ...
| | Vico-C Resistire CD (2004)
Palo A Palo songs
$7.79 There are few singers in modern merengue who are daring enough to stray from the well-beaten path. If one doesn't like a certain merenguero's vocal stylings, they're probably not going to like those of the next, either. Both in timbre and inflection, the style is pretty homogeneous. One of the few that does not fit inside the box, and his fans are grateful for it, is Toño Rosario. The dark, thick color of his voice sets him apart from the bright, brassy pack. Rosario's ornamentation is as smooth and rich as molasses, bringing to mind the crooners or bolero performers of yesteryear. In a world of barking trumpets, Rosario is a soulful tenor saxophone. Not only does Rosario distinguish himself as one of the D.R.'s easiest on the ears, but the arrangements ...
