First coming to prominence as a teen phenomenon with the Joe Gibbs-produced "Money in My Pocket" in 1972, Dennis Brown had a long career as one of Jamaica's best-loved singers until his untimely death in 1999. He encompassed various musical trends, including lover's rock, DJ, and dancehall, a good example of the latter here being the synth-heavy "Victory Is Mine." While it's impossible to summarize a recording career that covers over 100 albums with a single compilation, this edition of Trojan's THIS IS CRUCIAL REGGAE series covers some of the essentials.
