| | Mountain On Top CD Mountain Discography of CDs
ON TOP came just a year after the release of Mountain's first greatest hits collection, 1973's BEST OF. It's a budget priced compilation with a more concise track listing. These 10 tracks will be well known to classic rock aficionados everywhere.
Guitarist Leslie West was one of the biggest guitar heroes of the early '70s, taking Eric Clapton's fluid blues riffs and turbocharging them with the energy and explosiveness of Led Zeppelin. One of rock radio's most frequently played tracks, "Mississippi Queen," is featured, as well as such metallic rockers as "Don't Look Around," "Never in My Life," and "Roll Over Beethoven," and more tranquil moments such as "Boys in the Band" and "Theme for an Imaginary Western." $17.19 Recorded in 1977, 1980, 1996 and 1999. Includes liner notes by Colin Escott.
While the album's title is deceiving -- all but five of the 18 tracks on this double disc originate from the '90s, and 11 of those are from the same show -- this is an adequate, well-recorded document of both the original and re-formed versions of Foghat running through their established repertoire. It also works as a tribute to Lonesome Dave Peverett, the group's lead singer and primary songwriter, who died of cancer in February 2000, about a year after the most recent recording here. Since the band hit their peak in 1977 with their first live recording (a 1977 version of "I Ain't Got You" is this disc's oldest, tightest, and most succinct performance and might even be an outtake from that album), this can't help but be a retread. Still, the group retains most of their original lineup and ...

| | Cake Comfort Eagle CD (2001)
On Top songs
$8.99 John McCrea's off-key, languid half-rap, half-croon rambles over horn-laden indie-rock and crashes into Mariachi-band melodies while he dashes off less patently goofy than off-kilter lyrics such as "with fingernails that shine like justice." It's a formula that doesn't sound like a sure success for one album, let alone a slew, yet COMFORT EAGLE would bring Sacramento band Cake's total to four overwhelmingly catchy albums over six years.
Perhaps due to the pop crossover of singles like "The Distance" and "Never There," it's easy to forget that Cake is stylistically closer to Pavement than to all the fly-by-night goof-rock bands. While McCrea's lyrics are winking, referential, hyper-self-aware, and occasionally smug or silly, ...
| | Johnny Holiday Holiday For Lovers CD (2005)
On Top album
$12.19 One of the warmest ballad singers to mature during the 1950s, Johnny Holiday never became a major star but he worked steadily throughout the era. 'Holiday' for Lovers was originally released by the Mode label just before it went out of business, and it has been a true rarity ever since. Backed by an octet ...
| | Bryan Andrews Sessions CD (2007)
On Top CD music
$11.39 Gospel-inspired rock singer Bryan Andrews comes to you with his debut album, unlike anything you re likely to have heard before. The heartfelt, pure lyrics sung with a gospel overtone combined with the simple, smooth textures of acoustic-style music make for an easy listen. Sitting before a piano, Bryan envelopes you with strong emotion through an almost country-style storytelling of a broken heart and the pain that follows. \"Sessions\" cannot simply be described as an acoustic album, and surely does not leave you feeling empty, but rather wanting more. Recorded in a large studio in upstate NY, away from the hustle of the city, Andrews brings in guests such as Grammy-nominated bassist Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, John Lennon, etc), drummer Gary Burke (Shania Twain, Bob Dylan, Joe Jackson, etc), and acclaimed folk guitarist Artie Traum, among many others. From the sweet sounding \"This Is Me\" and gospel-inspired \"Everyday\" to the jaw-dropping ballads, \"Cold\" and \"In Your Arms\", \"Sessions\" will take you on a wild ride of pain, realization, and love that will be sure to stir you to the ...
