Hanson's third studio album, UNDERNEATH, finds the boys striking an engaging balance between the classic rock moves they explored on 2000's THIS TIME AROUND and the gleeful pop of MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, their hit 1997 debut. With help from power-pop icon Matthew Sweet (on the title track), singer/songwriter David Garza, Gregg Alexander of the New Radicals, and studio aces such as Abe Laboriel and Greg Wells, Hanson delivers a potent mix of mature lyricism, feel-good rhythms, and glorious three-part harmonies that only sibling groups can pull off. Sporting melodies that echo every devotee of the perfect hook from Harry Nilsson to Stevie Wonder, UNDERNEATH not only reveals Hanson to be an increasingly formidable band, it also shows brothers Isaac, Taylor, and Zachary having fun in the process.
Additional personnel includes: Greg Wells (acoustic guitar, bass); David Garza (guitar); Abraham Laboriel, Kevin Wyatt (bass); Luis Conte (djembe).
Producers: Greg Wells, Bob Marlette, Danny Kortchmar, Hanson.
Hanson: Isaac Hanson (vocals, acoustic & electric guitar); Taylor Hanson (vocals, piano, Wurlitzer piano, organ, keyboards, percussion); Zachary Hanson (vocals, drums).
Additional personnel: Davíd Garza.

The Best Hanson Album They have grown up.
Please, when you hear "Hanson", don't think about "MmmBop". They sang it, that's right. But their voices are different, they grown up, they are more mature, they are artists !
Listen to this album, you'll have a great surprise !!! Submitted by caro.68 (Turckheim, Alsace, FRANCE) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Amazing. This cd is truly amazing. It's nice to hear something refreshing from artists that actually write and perform their own music. I can't wait until their next release. Submitted by Jen (VA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Underneath album
$6.19 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but this minor faux pas is redeemed by the Irish folk medley "Joy of Life/Trout in the Bath" which arguably features more full-on Irishness than the Dublin production of RIVERDANCE. There's also a lovely rendition of Neil Young's "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" ...
| | Drive-By Truckers Southern Rock Opera CDs (2001) Digipak
Underneath CD music
$11.99 A sprawling two-disc set, the Drive-By Truckers' SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA is a cracked masterpiece that's enjoyable on several different levels. Hipsters might enjoy the giggly premise of a two-disc set devoted to a slightly altered retelling of the rise and fall of 1970s Southern rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd. Progressive rock fans lamenting the modern era's relative lack of story-driven albums divided into "Act I" and "Act II" will latch onto SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA with the same passion with which they embraced THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY. And most importantly, unreconstructed Southern rockers of the boogie-and-beer variety will appreciate the fact that this is an unapologetic, non-ironic valentine to the sound of not only Skynyrd, but the Allman Brothers, the Marshall Tucker Band, and the modern-day jam bands that ...

| | Dredg Catch Without Arms CD (2005)
Underneath songs
$8.49 Early on, critics often described Dredg as a metal group. However, the quartet has since matured into a hard-edged indie-rock ensemble that seeks diversity and refinement in its music. On CATCH WITHOUT ARMS, the band favors highly orchestrated parts, dense guitar riffs, and powerful drumming. Each song is based around memorable vocal hooks and sensitive lyrical content.
Many tracks on CATCH WITHOUT ARMS have a searching quality to them. Despite the sheer force of the music, this release is ultimately marked by well constructed melodies and intriguing harmonic underpinnings. This is due in part to singer Gavin Hayes, who sounds more like U2's Bono than a metal screecher. ...
| | 30 Seconds To Mars Beautiful Lie CD (2005)
Underneath album
$10.05 When rock bands include a Hollywood actor among their ranks, more often than not the results are mediocre vanity projects. However, 30 Seconds to Mars proves to be an exception to this rule, with Jared Leto (renowned for roles in FIGHT CLUB and LORD OF WAR) capably fronting this intense pop-metal outfit. On the group's second album, A BEAUTIFUL LIE, Leto is a remarkably versatile vocalist and the band's sole songwriter, leading the quartet through potent tracks that recall A Perfect Circle and Deftones. For those who like emotive, high-energy alt-metal, ...

| | Deadboy & The Elephantmen We Are Night Sky CD (2006) Digipak
Underneath music CDs
$11.99 Louisiana duo Deadboy and the Elephantmen consists of guitarist and vocalist Dax Riggs, a childhood runaway whose previous band, the teen heavy metal combo Acid Bath, won local fame and notoriety, and drummer Tessie Brunet, whose primitive percussive style fits Riggs's garage band-influenced songs like a nicely worn old pair of jeans. Riggs's complex background (he was raised as a Jehovah's Witness before rejecting the religion) is apparent in the nightmare imagery in songs like "Ancient Man" and "Misadventures of Dope." "Stop, I'm Already Dead" has a perfect singalong chorus, while the Cramps-like "Blood Music" and "Kissed By Lightning" add swampy voodoo imagery to Riggs's metal roots. But Deadboy ...
