Wolf has taken the music of '80s heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest and boiled it down to its essentials to produce a fast, loud, driving sound. From the high-pitched vocals to the effectively simple guitar solos, the band has got its formula down pat. Admittedly, the formula does get a bit repetitious by the end of the album because of the lack of adornment or variation -- there are no wimpy ballads, ponderous dirges or experimental excursions here -- and the band doesn't have much emotional nuance or range; basically, they rock, rock, and then rock some more. Also, some of the guitar solos run a bit long, which pushes three songs over the six-minute mark. But it's still an exciting formula and you're likely to enjoy this album if you're a fan of '80s metal. In addition to the nine original songs, the album concludes with a cover version of Blue Öyster Cult's "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" (which demonstrates that vocalist Nicklas Olsson doesn't sound very spooky) and two bonus tracks: covers of Slayer's "Die by the Sword" and the Ramones' "I'm Not Afraid of Life." ~ Todd Kristel

Evil Star Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) the best metal album since painkiller or melissa wolf, what can i say that was not on my black wings review, this is by far wolfs most evolved and catchiest album to date, i cant get enough. you just cant hardly find mellody and talent like this nowdays, there are so many amazing power metal bands out there but wolf bring something new to the next generation of power metal that seperates them from the rest. the songs on evil star are so complex and so catchy you will find yourself wanting to sing along to every track. my favorites on this album are wolfs blood, the dark, black wing rider, die by the sword(slayer)and dont fear the reaper(they do the reaper so well that it makes the original sound like crap)the song black wing rider defines wolf's style to me, this is the catchiest and most ellaborate mellodic metal song i have heard in years, truly amazing, wolf to me are a mixture of my idols, and their idols as well, take mercyful fate, omen, attacker, old school metallica, and slayer, and something as mellodic and complex as stratovarius, and put them all together in a metal stew, and you have wolf, wolf take all these awesome old school metal elements and put a new flare in them to make something unique and all their own. if the metal scene dont take notice of wolf then something is extremely bad wrong, i give this a 5 star because this is without a doubt one of the best albums in metal since, melissa(mercyful fate), ride the lightning(metallica), and painkiller(judas priest). you cant go wrong with wolf, also metal brothers and sisters, check out silent force, attacker(hard to find check century media),and give tad moroses new album a try(modus vivendi)truly amazing.
sincerely (a true metal head)

Straight Up Iron Maiden Wolf employ's a strong dose of early Iron Maiden influance in thier music. Evil Star is filled with galloping bass lines and interesting shift changes in the structure of their music. This is a rough and ready ride, muscially speaking, and in my opinion well worth the listen. If this CD were a heavy metal cake I would list the ingredients as follows: 2 heaping cups of Early Iron Madien, two pinches of Black Sabbath, a heaping tablespoon of Blue Oyster Cult and a cup of raw aggression. Bake on high volumn for about 50 minutes and you've got Wolf, Evil Star. Very tasty indeed. Warning if you do not like early Iron Maiden, then stay away from this CD. If you do like early Iron Maiden, Killers or Number of the Beast albums, then by all means buy this Cd you'll love it, I promise! Up the irons mate! Evil Star album
$10.49 After an absolutely stellar year 2000, Wolfe's eponymous debut had seen them bursting out of the gate in seemingly unstoppable fashion, Swedish vintage metal enthusiasts Wolf came back for a second go-round with 2002's Black Wings -- a still quite inspired collection of updated New Wave of British Heavy Metal anthems lacking only a few ingredients to match its predecessor. Specifically, Black Wings occasionally failed to ignite the same sense of excitement and danger so effortlessly displayed by the band's first set of songs. Maybe it was the new album's slightly more polished production standards, maybe it was the band's desire for a mainstream hit, or perhaps it was simply ...

Evil Star CD music
$10.49 As reflected by the evocative simplicity of their name, Sweden's Wolf are a throwback to an earlier, simpler time, when the New Wave of British Heavy Metal was defining most of the sub-genres (speed, black, etc.) still very much in vogue today. Of course, ultimate purists that they are, these subsequent developments bore little interest to the members of Wolf, who used their eponymous debut album to reach back beyond them to replicate that era's unmatched sense of wonder and excitement. Not surprisingly, their quest led them straight to the galloping riffs, dual guitar harmonies, mystical subjects, and soaring vocals of Iron Maiden, and most pundits would agree that the results are nothing short of stunning for their authenticity of spirit, as well as, more importantly, their own merits. First up is the thrilling, one-minute-and-forty-three-second opener "In the Shadow of Steel" -- so ...
| | Witchcraft Firewood CD (2005)
Evil Star music CDs
$13.65 Ask a group of doom metal or stoner rock enthusiasts what band was the blueprint for the doom/stoner field, and the vast majority will -- without hesitation -- say Black Sabbath. So when a band is as Sabbath-influenced as Witchcraft, it is understandable that some headbangers would describe them as a doom band. But Witchcraft isn't nearly as forceful or as heavy as Eyehategod, Orange Goblin, or Toadliquor, and Firewood isn't typical of what has been considered doom metal and stoner rock in the '90s and 2000 -- actually, this 2005 release shows no awareness of post-'80s metal or even post-'70s metal. Rather, Firewood is a total throwback to the heavy metal, hard rock, and psychedelic rock of the late '60s and very early '70s. Black Sabbath's first few albums with Ozzy Osbourne are a strong influence, ...

Evil Star album
$16.39 Originally issued in the U.K. on the Topic label and later licensed for U.S. release by Rhino, this is one of Gregson & Collister's more uneven projects, but is praiseworthy overall. The influence of Richard Thompson is felt throughout, especially in the often vinegary tone of Gregson's Stratocaster, but Gregson's writing is mature, self-assured, and original enough to keep that influence from becoming overwhelming. The bluesy "I Wouldn't Treat a Dog" bumps up nicely against the shimmery and hook-laden folk-pop of "Everybody Cheats on You," while Thompson is probably owed royalties for "That Same Mistake." That's the beginning of the album, and then things get a bit spottier. The slide guitar on "This Tender Trap" lends an air of Delta blues to a song whose chord progression is half Tin Pan ...
