Rocker James Hall released PLEASURE CLUB, his major label debut, in 1996. The album contains 14 tracks.
On his major label debut, former Mary My Hope frontman James Hall proves himself a musical chameleon influenced by legends like Jim Morrison and David Bowie. Over the course of Pleasure Club's 13 tracks, the singer moves from howling blues demon (the title track) to Led Zeppelin-esque wails, from soulful Jeff Buckley-like crooning to Mick Jagger's patented brand of sultry, multi-tracked drawl. But his greatest skill lies in his ability to pay tribute to the almighty gods of classic rock while simultaneously reinventing the sound with a '90s twist. Much less obviously derivative than the Black Crowes or Lenny Kravitz, Hall's distinctive sound may remind you of the greats, but by album's end he's carved out his own niche. Brilliant, powerful stuff. ~ Bret Love

Entertainment Weekly (5/17/96, p.62) - "...Although he occasionally loses his focus, Hall, a passionate, almost scarily intense performer, blends elements from Sly Stone, the Isley Brothers, and the Gun Club into a potent stew." - Rating: B+ Q (7/96, pp.112-114) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...hints of blues, gospel and rootsy soul with manic guitar and lusty, emotional singing....his band can stir up a minimal, clean groove as capably as they can stamp on their distortion pedals and give it full throttle..." Pleasure Club album
$10.09 After the initial shock fades, the existence of CHRISTMAS IN THE HEART seems perhaps inevitable. After all, the thing Bob Dylan loves most of all are songs that are handed down from generation to generation, songs that are part of the American fabric, songs so common they never seem to have been written. These are the songs Dylan chooses to sing on CHRISTMAS IN THE HEART, a cheerfully old-fashioned holiday album from its Norman Rockwell-esque cover to its joyous backing vocals. Apart from the breakneck "Must Be Santa," which barrelhouses like a barroom, Dylan doesn't really reinterpret these songs as much as simply play them with his ...
| | Trans-Siberian Orchestra Night Castle CDs (2009)
Pleasure Club CD music
$11.35 NIGHT CASTLE appears just in time for the big 2009 holiday season but don't be fooled: this isn't a Christmas album, even if it's sonically indistinguishable from Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other seasonal releases, and the fact that it's been dubbed "Capra-esque" certainly brings it within the realm of the season. NIGHT CASTLE brims with all the drama, pomp, and circumstance of Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other records but channeling these traits through a newly created narrative does have the effect of hearing it in a somewhat new light, shifting the focus entirely to the band's attack, ...

| | Shakira She Wolf CD (2009)
Pleasure Club songs
$11.18 Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. Such concentration behooves Shakira, freeing her to release her inner She Wolf, a wild wacko who's as coo coo as she is carnal. And for as sexy as Shakira is -- crucially, her music is sexy too -- what really gives She Wolf its bite is her inspired nuttiness, how she laments that Matt Damon's not meant for her, and wishes her ex-lover and his new girl a horrible vacation where the room smells and the toilet doesn't flush. "Darling, it is no joke, this is lycanthropy," she sings on the title track with no small trace of humor, and this blend of cheerful weirdness and sick beats -- often supplied by the Neptunes, delivering tough, sensual rhythms in a way they haven't in a long time, but also John Hill and Wyclef Jean -- is giddily addicting, ...
| | Belin All The Way In CDs (2009) With DVD
Pleasure Club album
$13.75 At times, it was hard to figure out whether Berlin were an average synth pop band trying to carve out their own niche or just a mediocre rock band jumping on the new wave bandwagon. Sure, they had some good singles and radio hits, but as an album band, they left a lot to be desired. Terri Nunn was beautiful and sexy, but it seemed like Berlin wanted to be more than just a commercial band with a hot vocalist: they seemed to be striving for greatness but settled for "that'll do." Unfortunately, they never had a chance to really prove themselves, breaking up after their commercially disappointing Count Three & Pray album, released in 1986. Nunn has kept the Berlin name alive over the years, touring with a different group of musicians and playing all the hits while releasing the occasional studio or live album. With a recorded output that seems to dwindle in quality with every release, one might hope that All the Way In would deviate from the standard "live ...
