Mickey ROurke and Lisa Bonet star in a journey of violence and murder that canvasses the desperate streets of Harlem, smoke-filled jazz clubs of New Orleans and ultimately, to voodoo rituals in the sweltering swamps of Louisiana. Special appearance by Robert de Niro. Special DVD features include audio commentaries by Mickey Rourke and director Alan Parker, a documentary outlining the historical, religious and cultural origins of Voodoo, more.

Harry Angel is a 1950s gumshoe hired by a dark stranger to search for the perpetrator of a string of grisly murders leading from New York to the voodoo cults of backwoods New Orleans. Each step Angel takes in this film noir nightmare brings him nearer to the heat of hell.

In Alan Parker's ANGEL HEART, based on the novel FALLING ANGEL by William Hjortsberg, a New York City gumshoe is hired to find an aging blues singer. Harry Angel (Mickey Rourke) follows clues from the ominous ghettos of Harlem to the witchy backwoods of Louisiana, where he takes up with Epiphany Proudfoot (Lisa Bonet), the beautiful young daughter of a voodoo priestess, whom he believes will be able to shed light on the growing mystery surrounding the missing musician. As Angel closes in on the truth of the case, his contacts start turning up dead. He begins to suspect he might be next. Parker (MISSISSIPPI BURNING) threads a commentary on the limitations of modern Western society into his sensual, suspenseful thriller. As the story unfolds, Angel relies less and less on his failing, overwhelmed rational mind (and handgun) and more on Epiphany's ancient mojo. Rourke captures the unraveling protagonist perfectly, and Bonet adds an erotic and mysterious edge with her performance. Robert De Niro is both funny and malevolent as Angel's mysterious client, Louis Cyphre. Shimmering with a beguiling mist of the macabre, ANGEL HEART provides an unexpectedly haunting dose of gothic noir.

Director Alan Parker was forced to cut 10 seconds out of a lovemaking scene between Lisa Bonet and Mickey Rourke in order to qualify for an "R" rating. The unrated version of the film has those additional 10 seconds. Feature film debut for "Cosby Show" actress Lisa Bonet. Shot on location in New York and New Orleans, Louisiana. Copyright 1987 Carolco.

5 stars A True Masterpiece!
Raymond Chandler meets The Exorcist...something like that. A great showcase for Mickey Rourke's amazing talent. PLEASE CATCH 'THE WRESTLER'- there are so few well written scripts and well acted and directed movies coming out of Hollywood - do not overlook this one.

5 stars Great Movie
Couldn't wait for the DVD of Angel Heart. It's hard to describe it - but it has elements of horror, mystery, film noir,... Mickey Rouke's best role. And Bobby Deniro is great too!

5 stars Angel Heart Revisited
Twenty years after its release, and with hundreds of videos in my collection, I searched and finally found a pre-viewed copy of "Angel Heart" for my collection. It had haunted me all these years and was not being broadcast on any of my cable channels; therefore, I HAD to purchase it in order to view it again. No video (now DVD) collection is complete without a copy of "Angel Heart". Much like the movie "9 1/2 Weeks", also starring Mickey Rourke, one finds oneself thinking, "I'd love to see that movie again". It is truly haunting and there is no way to predict the ending. Mickey Rourke was born to play this part; in fact, I cannot concieve of any other actor playing it. Robert DiNiro was right on target with his interpretation of "Louis Cypher", and even Lisa Bonet, who previously appeared to me to be phoning her performances in, was just right for the part of Epiphany. The double-entendres abound and, after viewing this film, the characters' names make sense and are actually clues.

5 stars Rourke & DeNiro Blaze the Screen
This movie is a movie that you will definitely watch more than once. And each time you watch it you will pick up more and more clues. When you watch it the first time the ending will shock you like big time because this movie will have you guessing through the whole movie until the final climax of it. Your jaw will hit the floor to the shocking ending. I highly recommend this movie if you like movies that are a bit on the dark side. 99% of the people who watch this movie cannot figure it out until the very end. I rest my case.

5 stars IN MY TOP TEN FAVOURITE MOVIES
Angel Heart has great atmosphere. Set mostly in New Orleans, this movie makes you feel as though you are there in the heat of it's setting. Mickey Rourke is at his best and a supporting cast with the likes of Robert De Niro add to the overall quality of this picture. The story is well-written with many unforgettable scenes. Watch this if you like a dark-edged film.

David Lynch strikes again with this literal nightmare of a motion picture--a brilliant, scathing, hysterical, and haunting ode to Hollywood. In the film, a mysterious dark-haired woman (Laura Elena Harring) emerges from an accident with a purse full of cash and a head full of amnesia. Meanwhile, Betty Elms (Naomi Watts), a wide-eyed gal from Deep River, Ontario, has just landed in Los Angeles with dreams of movie super stardom. When Betty finds the nameless beauty in her aunt's apartment, she is deeply intrigued by the situation and offers to help her. This sends the two women on a bizarre search for the truth through the macabre, sun-soaked streets of the City of Angels, where the mob, a young film director (Justin Theroux), a studio executive with a tiny ...

First-time writer-director Bryan Johnson may be best known as a member of filmmaker Kevin Smith's View Askew universe (he played Steve-Dave in MALLRATS and DOGMA), but those expecting VULGAR to be another version of CLERKS might be surprised by this off-kilter drama that is best described as Bozo the Clown meets DELIVERANCE. Brian O'Halloran (Dante from CLERKS) plays Will, aka Flappy the Clown, an earnest, downtrodden guy desperately trying to make a living as a clown. Will is a constant target of abuse--from the drunks flinging projectiles on his ratty lawn to his nursing home-bound mother's streams of vitriol. Barely scraping by, Will has an "epiphany" about how to make more money--by hiring himself out for bachelor parties as Vulgar, a clown sporting a bustier and garters. On his first outing, Will instead finds himself in a terrifying ...
