(1 Customer Review)
The grunge movement of the early '90s certainly spawned its fair share of imitators, as evidenced by the likes of Bush, Candlebox, Days of the New, and Sugartooth. The majority of these bands only managed to last for a handful of albums however, but Seven Mary Three have stuck around the longest -- having released albums on a somewhat regular basis since their 1995 debut, American Standard. 2004 saw the release of their fifth album overall, Dis/Location, and while it seemed like the rest of the world was focusing on emo and new wave revival bands, Seven Mary Three was still emulating the sounds of their heroes from a bygone Seattle era. Singer Jason Ross' voice still recalls Eddie Vedder, and the music has MTV Buzz Bin written all over it -- if it was 1992. Still, fans of the group's earlier works will be pleased to learn that the group continues to stick to preferred sound (something not a lot of the aforementioned bands did). The song remains largely the same on such tracks as "Settle Up" and "Oceans of Envy," where big grungey riffs do battle with Ross" heart on his sleeve lyrics. Seven Mary Three's sound and approach on Dis/Location would sound right at home between such early 21st century grunge revivalists as Puddle of Mudd and Staind. ~ Greg Prato
Seven Mary Three: Jason Ross, Thomas Juliano (vocals, guitar); Casey Daniel (bass guitar); Giti Khalsa (drums).

Dis/Location
$15.95 Contains a hidden track within the last track, "Bee Girl" on Disc 2.
Includes liner notes by Stone Gossard, Mike McCready, Jeff Ament, Eddie Vedder.
Pearl Jam entered the 21st century with the kind of cult status previously reserved for jam bands such as the Grateful Dead and Phish--that point where the group can do no wrong in the starry eyes and ears of their devotees. Now that the group has tackled the bootlegging issue (by making virtually every one of their shows available to their fans for bargain prices), the grunge pioneers give official release to a set of their coveted and most sought-after B-sides and non-album tracks.
LOST DOGS is a musical treasure-trove, much of which is culled from Pearl Jam's album sessions, with the unexplained exception of VITALOGY. The two-disc set showcases the strong suits of all former and current band members. "Don't Give Me No Lip" was the first track to feature guitarist Stone Gossard on lead vocals (rather than "Mankind"), ...
| | Collective Soul Youth CD (2004)
Dis/Location
$12.89 Billed as Collective Soul's first independent album since its debut, YOUTH arrived a full three years after the group's previous effort, the compilation 7EVEN YEAR ITCH. The hiatus (and greater creative control) seemed to put Ed Roland and company in a positive place, as the record is an undeniably poppy, feel-good effort. "Better Now" declares the band's newfound confidence explicitly in the lyrics, and the music drives the point home, with a rock & roll guitar riff right out of the AC/DC songbook. "How Do You Love" and "Under Heaven's Skies" are moody, mid-tempo acoustic-guitar-driven tunes reminiscent of THE JOSHUA TREE-era U2. "Counting the Days" is a grungy rocker (with just a bit of twang) in the vein of the group's breakthrough single, "Shine." A welcome return to form that clearly ...
| | Better Than Ezra Before The Robots CD (2005)
Dis/Location
$13.69 Given the title BEFORE THE ROBOTS, one might assume that Better Than Ezra's 2005 album is a concept record with a sci-fi bent. Fear not, though, BTE is still crafting catchy pop songs; drummer Travis McNabb merely nicked the name from a bizarre dream. Here, the New Orleans trio offers 13 tunes that are a crisp mix of storytelling prowess and genre dabbling. The record includes the neo-funk of "Juicy," which finds frontman/composer Kevin Griffin taking on a Mick Jagger-circa-SOME GIRLS falsetto, and the post-modern Bonnie and Clyde tale "A Southern Thing," which finds room for a mix of loops and grungy guitar riffs. Of course, Griffin's strengths are as a raconteur, a talent he displays with a narrative inspired by the demise of country-rock legend Gram Parsons on the jangly "A Lifetime." Equally impressive is the mid-tempo, Tom Petty-like rocker "American Dream," which takes potshots at the major corporations of the world. ...

| | Ministry Rio Grande Blood CD (2007) Digipak
Dis/Location
$10.69 Another salvo in Ministry's unrelenting aural assault on the policies of George W. Bush, 2007's RIO GRANDE DUB, as the title implies, presents spacious dub versions of the searing industrial-metal songs from RIO GRANDE BLOOD. Remixed by John Bechdel and Clayton Worbeck, these tracks often prove to be more dynamic than the originals, as revealed on the echo-laden, sample-heavy, and aggressive Rio Grande Dubya mix of the original album's title song.
After the fierce, politically charged HOUSES OF ...
