| | Amber Pacific Fading Days CD Amber Pacific Discography of CDs
Judging by the hooks and energy that drive its five-song debut EP Fading Days, Federal Way, Washington's own Amber Pacific are a capable collective of emo, pop and punk enthusiasts. Working off of familiar references like Taking Back Sunday and Jimmy Eat World, lead-off track "Always You" has an irresistible charm akin to the Jimmies breakout smash "The Middle." Dashboard Confessional comes to mind as the set-bowing "Here We Stand" unravels and it's a shimmering, acoustic number that sticks in your memory well after it culminates. But the songs are solid straight through, as the Sunny Day Real Estate-inspired "The Last Time" affirms, and although AP are still figuring out what they want to be musically, from a standpoint of energy and passion, this fivesome -- steered by a standout frontman named Matt Young -- has a very promising future. ~ John D. Luerssen
Amber Pacific: Mat Young (vocals); Will Nutter, Justin Westcott (guitar); Greg Strong (bass instrument); Dango (drums).

Fading Days album
$10.85 On Darkest Hour's third album, Hidden Hands of a Sadist Nation, it should come as no surprise that the lyrics are as vitriolic as the vocal timbre, decrying and describing a society where guns, violence, and malevolent media rule. The band rolls through twisted grindcore progressions in the background with reasonable aplomb. The album unexpectedly ...

| | Cure Faith: Deluxe Edition CDs (1981) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Digipak
Fading Days music CDs
$12.25 This remastered edition features a 15-track bonus disc of rarities that includes numerous demos, studio outtakes, and live performances.
If you ever observed (or were) a pale depressed-looking teenager dressed entirely in black, sitting in the corner scribbling frantically into a marble bound notebook, then you already understand the Cure. In the 1980s, the Cure provided the soundtrack for an entire generation of misfit toys, and if SEVENTEEN SECONDS was a wake-up call for the dispossessed, FAITH is the daily affirmation. Scaled back down to a three-piece with the loss of keyboardist Hartley, the Cure is a lean, mean fighting machine, ready to rumble.
"Rumble" is the best way to describe the propulsive bass playing of Simon Gallup, whose rolling bass anchors both mid-tempo numbers like "The Drowning Man" and faster fare such as "Primary." While no new ground is broken ("Doubt" is basically a rewrite of "Play for Today"), FAITH is stunning in its simplicity and haunting beauty, as evidenced by "All Cats Are Grey" and "The Funeral Party." Even drummer and mascot Lol Tolhurst's minimal beats work to perfection next to the spare-yet-effective instrumentation of "Faith." This is quintessential Cure.
Part two of an unofficial trilogy that begins with 1980's Seventeen Seconds and ends with 1982's Pornography -- acknowledged as such by Rhino, who unloaded deluxe reissues of all three on the same day -- Faith now comes with the expected second disc of demos, outtakes, scarcities, and so-so-sounding performance material. The most noteworthy addition to Faith's original running order is "Carnage Visors," a sprawling funeral march that gradually fades in and then out after half an hour, as if it's only a segment from a piece that's being generated until the end of time. Its actual purpose: as a score to a film, made by Simon Gallup's brother, which preceded the band during some tour dates. Previously available only on the cassette version of Faith, it appears at the end of disc one, giving the album proper the feel of a double LP. (So, instead of the ...

$25.35 PIETR aka Peter Stein is a guitar picker from wayback. Born in Perth Australia, he recounts the moments that guided him towards his musical star. The 1st was when his grandfather bought him a guitar an overseas trip. He recounts that as a defining moment, "It was love at first sight. It was such a beautiful shiny thing!" He'd been learning violin before that but swapped to guitar instantly. The next moment came when he first hear Elvis sing Jailhouse rock." When I heard that"I knew there was something happening." Something bigger was about to happen and that something was the Beatles. They just blew him away and still do. "I recall walking down a street in Perth heard Paperback writer. What a great song, great production. It blew me away then and still does!" So the years passed and Stein listened avidly to The Beatles and Dylan and all the other artist of the era. He formed his own band called Cahoots and played in Perth West Australia. He then formed his own band that included the soon to be formed Divynyls guitarist Mark Mcantree. They played support to The Big O, Roy Orbison. He recalls Roy as one of the nicest people he's ever met. A polite southern gentleman. Soon after that he got married moved to Melbourne and joined a band called the Renegades. Both were country rock bands influenced a lot by The Band. In Melbourne he started recording with a young jazz singer at the time named Vince Jones. These were mainly demos although the ABC played a song called Guiding Light from these sessions. He still has about 20 unreleased songs from these sessions. His interests shifted to songwriting and he landed himself a publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music in Sydney and Col Joyes ATA in Sydney. He also wrote for Image music in Melbourne. His song Together was covered by artists from all over the world including Takanori Hiura Japan, Ben Kramer Holland and Eurovison winner from Sweden Lotta Engberg who charted with the song at no 3. He also had covers for his song Long distance Lover. He also entered various song competitions and won many Paters awards (now defunct); won the Melbourne song competition in the 80's; he also won the Byron Bay song comp in 1991; came 2nd place in the International Jewish song festival with his song I believe in Peace and came runner up for ...
