| | Rough Guide To The Music Of Ethiopia CD (2004)
Jupiter songs
$13.85 Taking something of a break from their usual tendency to take a wide range of music from an area, the folks at Rough Guide have this time around focused their attention in on only one major aspect of Ethiopian music: the 'swinging '60s". Admittedly, this is by far the most important period in Ethiopian popular music, with everything since being shaped, in some part, by the stars of the day. The sound is entirely unique, much like the rest of the nation's identity. During this period of creative exploration, the sound of Addis Ababa's nightlife was cemented to some extent, making heavy use of atypical piano progressions by masters such as Alemayehu Eshete and Girma Byn, and jumping, roving, off-balance but powerful horn arrangements (the brass section was just developed ...
| | Gap Band Greatest Hits CD (1998)
Jupiter album
$6.45 Compared to the many other Gap Band compilations, this Greatest Hits -- from Collectables' Priceless Collection series, released in 2004 -- falls near the bottom of the stack. Even if it's clearly a budget release, there's no point in issuing another skimpy and spotty overview of the band's career. No "You Dropped ...
| | Streets Of Lhasa CD (2005)
Jupiter CD music
$12.89 This album belongs to Sublime Frequencies' "street folk" recordings. Zhang Jian walked the streets of Lhasa, ZhaDa and Shigatse (Tibet) in August 2003, microphone in hand, accompanied by BBC Chinese correspondent Steve Barker and Christiaan Virant. Local folks greeted the travelers with songs, heard here interspersed with field recordings. The erhu (an upright Chinese violin) and the san xian (a three-string guitar) provide the main instrumentation throughout, mostly accompanying singers, but also occasionally as solo instruments. The most memorable tracks are those documenting a father-and-son duet -- the boy is only a three-year-old but sounds very confident ...
| | Meg York & Veelah Village Squared CD (2006)
Jupiter music CDs
$18.99 We play hot Eastern European urban folk music. What that means is that we play acoustic instruments like clarinets and saxophones, accordion, tuba and hand drums, but we jam out using the mesmerizing rhythms and scales of the Balkans. It’s party music to line dance to, or how ever else you want to get your global groove on. Meg York is a multi-instrumentalist who specializes in woodwinds and hand percussion. She has a clarinet performance degree from the University of New Mexico and has studied extensively with world music masters. She toured the US with Pablo Rodarte’s Dance Espana, a New Mexico Flamenco dance troupe, and Mexico with the Univesidad de Las Americas Orchestra. She has plays in theater pits, community orchestras, and various classical house concerts. She played in the Stockton International Dance Camp band in Stockton California, Sherefe, a Boulder based band, and Jurjuna, a Front Range area Middle Eastern ensemble. She performs at the Taste of Colorado, Global Groove Festival, the Colorado Early Music Festival, and the Boulder Jewish Festival, for Congregation Beth Evergreen, and countless “haflas” for the Society for Creative Anachronisms. She leads the Clarinoodle Conference, an annual clarinet choir improvisation symposium since 1998, and teaches at the Evergreen School of Music. She enjoys composing; she also collects and arranges the rich traditional tunes of the Mediterranean, Balkans and Middle East. Meg lives in Evergreen, Colorado, with her husband Steve Lefebure and two children, Ella and Arthur. Jesse ...

| | Alessandro Everlasting Fire CD (2009)
Jupiter CD music
$22.79 Alessandro is a 21st Century artist, the embodiment of many cultures and truly a citizen of the world. Born in Iran to an Italian father and a Persian mother, Alessandro Giua was raised from infancy in Rome. He developed a love of music early on, thanks to his parents. Alessandro’s mother was a classical pianist who also loved to sing American jazz and gospel as well as Persian folk songs, while his father was a passionate opera buff. Young Alessandro’s first public performance came at age five, when he sang “When the Saints Go Marching In” at a conference in front of hundreds of onlookers. At 10, Alessandro discovered the Beatles, and so began his passion for English-language pop music – from ‘70s classic-rock icons such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Pink Floyd to ‘80s legends like the Police, Michael Jackson, and U2. As a teenager, Alessandro taught himself to play guitar, keyboard and drums. He also continued to season his soothing, ever-deepening baritone voice. At 18, he formed a group, “The Light in the Darkness” with two colleagues. Their goal – to spread an inspiring, inclusive message: “the whole world is one.”In his first U.S. CD release, Everlasting Fire, Alessandro promotes the new-millennial ideal of unity in diversity. The term “multicultural” is no mere marketing tag for the singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and humanitarian, who is fluent in four languages. ...
