| | Proper Introduction To Stan Getz: The Wizard CD - Import Stan Getz Discography of CDs
THE WIZARD brings together 13 remarkable tracks from jazz legend Stan Getz including "Yardbird Suite" and "Willow Weep For Me."
While most of the Proper label's compilations are valuable sets, they've proven less able to fulfill the message in the title of their series ("proper introduction") when it comes to jazz artists. Stan Getz has a cornucopia of phases ready to be introduced to those with little knowledge of "The Sound," but this title focuses on only one. Including a few scattered West Coast dates from 1953, it does admittedly feature excellent appearances from Chet Baker and Bob Brookmeyer, as well as smooth soloing from Getz himself. But to pass this off as an introduction is a serious disservice to music fans; it's a collection for completists who need to hear both the legendary dates and the simply good recordings by one of the post-bop era's best tenor saxophonists. ~ John Bush
2004 compilation features 13 digitally remastered tracks & is packaged in a digipak with eight page booklet featuring rare photos, session details, & biographical notes. Proper. $12.65 “We all come to a point in our lives where we see the signs, and are given a choice of where we want to go. We can make a choice to make things better or to fuck things up. That’s the moment… between the warning and the war”. ~ vocalist, LaurenSiX was formed in 2001, in Orange County, CA. Their first release was an EP called "When The Beauty's Gone" (1605 Records). SiX played all over America and Canada throughout 2001-2004; with the likes of Clutch, Gwar, Dope, Hed Pe, Saliva, Coal Chamber, and countless other local and regional bands. In 2004, the band returned to their rehearsal/recording studio, "The Asylum", to cook up new music for their full length debut. It became the dark, heavy groove, metal onslaught, titled, "The Price Of Faith", which hit stores in February, 2005 (1605 Records). Once again they toured their asses off all over America, and even dippin' down into Mexico; rockin' with everyone from Disturbed, Slipknot, Stone Sour, Mastodon, Fear Factory, Chimaira, Nevermore, Arch Enemy & a ton of other great bands. They ended almost 2 years of touring and entered the rehearsal studio again, to start writing a new album. 27 songs were written, and many of the new songs were debuted live in front of sold out shows with Clutch, legendary punk gods the Germs, & Disturbed. Yet the album was far from finished.SiX first began to record the album up in a fancy Hollywood studio, but then eventually scrapped the entire project to start completely over in a buddy’s small dungeon like studio. They worked sometimes up to 15 hours a day, sleeping in the studio to get it done. The vibe was perfect. Although there were many struggles from the beginning, their drive was relentless. Finally, with the additions ...
