After a number of singles and EPs, U.K. goth-dance act Alien Sex Fiend released their debut album HERE CUM GERMS in 1987, featuring the title track and "My Brain is in The Cupboard Above The Kitchen Sink."
Alien Sex Fiend's cartoonish electro goth has its moments; charmingly simplistic and amateurish, ASF sounds at times like Skinny Puppy's goofy little brother. On Here Cum Germs, most of the ideas are unfocused and undeveloped; the songs usually consist of primitive drum loops, samples, some stray guitars, found-sound atmospherics, and Nik Fiend's silly rants and chants. Still, it's good antisocial music to annoy your parents or neighbors with. ~ Andy Hinds
A mid price release of the goth band's 1987 full length album.

Here Cum Germs album
$12.95 The UK-based 4AD label was responsible for some of the 1980s' most cutting edge alternative music. This Mortal Coil is something of a label pet project, an ever-shifting, collaborative outfit that includes members of such 4AD bands as the Cocteau Twins, Modern English, Dead Can Dance, Color Box and Wolfgang Press. True to the label's aesthetic, the music of This Mortal Coil is ethereal, abstract, dreamlike and ...

| | David J Crocodile Tears & The Velvet Cosh CD (1985)
Here Cum Germs CD music
$13.25 Released just prior to the formation of Love and Rockets, David J's follow-up to The Etiquette of Violence is better than its predecessor in every way. The songwriting is more skillful, the production much sharper, the musicianship tighter. The mood, too, is more varied, with the clouds parting occasionally to let in a bit of light. This may have something to do with J's stint in the Jazz Butcher's band, and indeed Crocodile Tears and the Velvet Cosh at times sounds like a Butcher record. No credits are provided, but the guitar on some tracks has a distinct Max Eider feel. On Crocodile Tears and the Velvet Cosh J takes a big step toward developing an identity apart from Bauhaus. Partsof this album could accurately be characterized as "folky," "jazzy," and "mellow" -adjectives that ...

Here Cum Germs CD music
$18.59 SMILE is the 1992, eight song EP compiliation by Oxford, England's purveyors of dream pop, Ride, and includes the tracks "Chelsea Girl" and "Like A Daydream."
A pairing of Ride's first two EPs, Smile is a batch of eight muddy, shambling wrecks that run dangerously close to obscuring great pop songs. In fact, much of Smile makes My Bloody Valentine's blurry Isn't Anything sound as polished as a Steely Dan record. What makes the tunes remarkable is the spirit of the band, along with a complementary mix. The band probably knew exactly what they were doing, but wanted to sound clueless. It's the sound of four art students losing themselves in their record collections, wanting to sound naïve and fresh but well-studied. Mark Gardener sounds like he couldn't sing to save his life on "Chelsea Girl," but it's no matter. The relentless rush of Loz Colbert's drums and distorted guitars of Gardener and Andy Bell carry the song, topped off by a nifty wah-wah climax. Though the mid-tempo, chugging "Drive Blind" could be taken literally, it could double as a metaphor for throwing oneself headlong into a relationship -- closing your eyes and not caring if a brick wall or cliff is up a mile ahead. The remainder is filled out with sticky riffs and melodies which avoid sounding like the standard pop fair. It sounds a bit amateurish, and Gardener and Bell hadn't quite found their footing vocally. Nonetheless, Smile brought something ...
| | Steel Pulse African Holocaust CD (2004)
Here Cum Germs music CDs
$10.05 From its formation in the mid-1970s in Birmingham, England, Steel Pulse built its international reputation by fusing socially conscious themes with compulsively danceable reggae. The band stood out by being virtually the sole black act (not to mention by donning pointed hoods and capes during its churning anti-racist anthem, "Ku Klux Klan") in the UK's '70s Rock Against Racism movement that also included the Specials and the Clash.
Steel Pulse's 2004 Grammy-nominated AFRICAN HOLOCAUST demonstrates that, after nearly 30 years, the group's opposition to racism, oppression, and tyranny in all its forms remains as fierce as its devotion to the power of the one-drop rhythm and the irresistibly sinuous bass line. Encapsulating its musical and political outlook in the "Down-trodden masses, get up off your asses" couplet of "Tyrant," the group slips and slides through a set noticeably light on sunny optimism and heavy on fiery Bob Marley-style Rasta socio-political commentary. ...

Here Cum Germs album
$9.29 Like football, which means something entirely different in the U.S. than it does in the rest of the world, DJ is something of a misnomer. In the U.S., at least since people started taking notice, it refers to the art of playing records; in Jamaica it refers to toasting, the long standing tradition of talking over records to ignite a party, and a lot of people have marked it as the precursor to rapping. It started in the mid-'60s, but really took off at the end of the decade and exploded in the '70s. This Is Crucial Reggae: DJs takes its cues from that explosion, featuring many of the big names and delivering a few tracks that are indeed crucial. Big Youth with "Screaming Target," one-hit wonder Scotty with "Draw Your Brakes," and Prince Far I's "Heavy ...
