the frightening story of the weeks leading up to and following a nuclear strike on the United States. In this cautionary tale, a small-town in Kansas is destroyed by a nuclear missile attack. Picking through the rubble left in the aftermath, survivors form into lawless clans in an effort to stay alive before the effects of radiation kill them or the sheer misery of it all drives them insane. Stars Jason Robards, Steve Guttenberg, John Lithgow, JoBeth Williams. Made-for-tv-movie revolving around a nuclear catastrophe befalling Lawrence, Kansas, and the town's survivors struggling to make sense of the splintered, toxic world they've inherited. Steve Guttenberg and Jason Robards star in this Emmy Award-winning made-for-TV movie about the aftermath of a total global thermonuclear war. Taking place in Lawrence, Kansas, THE DAY AFTER is a bleak look at the effects such a war would have on humanity by using the inhabitants of this small town as a microcosm of the world. Decidedly grim, Nicholas Meyer's film is graphic and disturbing, one that polarized an entire generation's attitude towards nuclear war. TV film won 12 Emmy Award nominations, fired up anti-nuclear peace groups and disturbed its network's shareholders. Day After Movie Review Average Rating: (3.7 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Good movie, poor presentation Well I first saw this movie back in the late 80's on video as an educational film at primary school. It was to give appreciation to children what the effects of the cold war turning into nuclear war would be. So you all know it's a pretty good movie.
So I got this DVD hoping it would be good quality, with extras, trailer, and so on. Unfortunately there are none. Not even trailers for other films. The movie has NO extras. It just has scene selections.
But what gutted me the most was the quality of the print, the film is the same fullscreen grainfest that the original VHS version is. Well this movie was shot for-television, mabey it was shot on low quality film, or heaven forbid, video? I don't know... but the main thing is, it's the same low quality copy as the VHS version.
Good movie, poor presentation. 2.5 stars. Submitted by Jamie Innes (Chch, New Zealand) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

A Graphically Realistic Portrayal of a Nuclear Attack I saw this when it appeared on TV and I was simply awestruck at the realism that this movie portrayed. From the events leading up to the nuclear strike to the agonizing and shocking after effects of the blast. It WAS a wake-up call for a lot of people and I highly would recommend this movie to anyone, however in the case of smaller children, I would recommend that parents view this before letting small children see it to insure that they are capable of handling the graphic depictions. A well-made and well acted film. Submitted by j.coonrod (Beaverton, OR, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$9.69 Beginning with a documentary style that immediately hooks the viewer, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, based on the Harry Bates short story "Farewell to the Master," becomes as much a human interest story as it does a sci-fi B-movie classic. The film soberly depicts the arrival of an alien dignitary, Klaatu (Michael Rennie), who has come to earth with his deadly robot, Gort (Lock Martin), to deliver the message that earthlings must stop warring among themselves--or else. After being shot at by ignorant, panicky military guards, Klaatu is brought to a Washington, D.C., hospital, where he begs a sympathetic but frank Major White (Robert Osterloh) to gather all the world's leaders so he can tell them more specifically what he has come 250 million miles to warn them about. Losing patience, Klaatu slips into the human world, adapting a false identity and living at a boarding house where he meets a smart woman with a conscience, Helen Benson (Patricia Neal), and her inquisitive son, Bobby (Billy Gray). Both mother and son soon find themselves embroiled in the ...

$10.25 When a small space probe falls to earth in a remote village of New Mexico, all but two of the town's inhabitants--an infant and an old alcoholic--meet death as their blood turns to powder. After two reconnaissance pilots have also perished, a national state of emergency is declared. The two survivors and the recovered space probe are transported to a mammoth five-story underground laboratory, and a team of scientists--biologist Jeremy Stone (Arthur Hill), microbiologist Ruth Leavitt (Kate Reid), blood chemistry authority Mark Hall (James Olson), and pathologist Charles Dutton (David Wayne)--is swiftly brought to the lab to discover the nature of the deadly organism brought by the space probe. The team is subjected to grueling hours of precautionary decontamination measures--which ...

$23.45 Co-helmed by WALL-E director Andrew Stanton, FINDING NEMO follows Marlin (voiced by Albert Brooks), an overprotective clown fish father, as he desperately searches the farthest reaches of the sea for his missing son Nemo. Marlin's journey leads him beyond the Great Barrier Reef into deeper and darker waters, where he meets Dory (Ellen DeGeneres), a forgetful yet optimistic blue tang, and a number of not-so-friendly--and often very hungry--aquatic creatures. Meanwhile, little Nemo finds himself in a dentist's fish tank in Syndey, Australia, along with other underwater captives, including Gill (Willem Dafoe), the group's scarred Moorish idol leader. As Nemo works with his new friends on a plan to escape their tank, Marlin and Dory swim closer, but they'll need more than just fins to get into the dentist's office.
This fifth computer-animated outing by Pixar continues the company's remarkable winning streak that began with TOY STORY. Like other Pixar films, FINDING NEMO features a story with heart--this time, a father-and-son tale--and thoroughly charming leads--in this case, Marlin, Nemo, and Dory. And, of course, there's an army of fascinating supporting characters, including Bruce (Barry Humphries), a great white shark on a no-fish diet; Crush (director/screenwriter ...
