| | Warrant Then And Now CD Warrant Discography of CDs
Sanctuary's 2004 compilation Then and Now isn't strictly telling the truth in its title, which implies that the disc has highlights from Warrant during its prime and some new songs from the current incarnation of the band. In actuality, it's a compilation from three albums the band released on CMC International in the mid- to late '90s -- the studio albums Ultraphobic (1995) and Belly to Belly (1996) and 1997's Warrant Live 1986-1997, which, contrary to its title, does not have a selection of highlights from 1986 to 1997 but instead captures a concert the reunited Warrant gave at Detroit's legendary Harpo's on November 22, 1996. In other words, not really the prime of Warrant then, and not a picture of Warrant now. It's hard to tell who would want this collection -- surely, the hardcore will already own everything here, and those casual fans in the market for a compilation would certainly prefer 1996's The Best of Warrant, which features original recordings and none of the clunky mid-'90s alt-metal that litters this compilation. But if you're looking for Warrant: The Best of the CMC Years, Studio and Live, this would serve your needs. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Then And Now album
$17.19 Recorded in 1977, 1980, 1996 and 1999. Includes liner notes by Colin Escott.
While the album's title is deceiving -- all but five of the 18 tracks on this double disc originate from the '90s, and 11 of those are from the same show -- this is an adequate, well-recorded document of both the original and re-formed versions of Foghat running through their established repertoire. It also works as a tribute to Lonesome Dave Peverett, the group's lead singer and primary songwriter, who died of cancer in February 2000, about a year after the most recent recording here. Since the band hit their peak in 1977 with their first live recording (a 1977 version of "I Ain't Got You" is this disc's oldest, tightest, ...

Then And Now songs
$18.39 Cynics who perceive many super-groups as nothing more than bloated extrapolations of, at times, perfectly mundane musical components, can back up their assumptions with Armageddon's eponymous debut from 1975. The first and final spawn of the would-be-super-group featuring former Yardbird vocalist Keith Relf, erstwhile Captain Beyond drummer Bobby Caldwell, ex-Steamhammer guitarist Martin Pugh, and Relf's Renaissance partner, bassist Louis Cennamo, the album contains a meager five tracks -- four of which extend beyond the eight-minute barrier due to bouts of arguably unnecessary, self-indulgent waffling. On the other hand, this was the '70s, people, and of course this sort of excess was par for the course, back then. What's more, these same dubious qualities actually contributed to the album's eventual adoption as a precursor to the stoner rock movement by dope fiends everywhere, most of whom rarely heard ...
