Released in the U.S. a year after it was issued in the rest of the world, Komeda's long-awaited fourth album, Kokomemedada, doesn't quite match the heights of What Makes It Go?. However, it does deliver more of the band's fun and occasionally surprising pastiches of rock, pop, disco, synth pop, and whatever else catches their fancy. After more than a decade of their music, it's still pretty remarkable how often Komeda's collage pop turns out to be greater than the sum of its parts. "Blossom (Got to Get It Out)" is a fine example: the song was originally on Powerpuff Girls: Heroes & Villains in a more frantic, chopped-up rendition, but here, it has a chugging groove and funky low end that borrows liberally from Krautrock and soul. Usually, resurrecting a previously released song is a sign of trouble, but by sampling themselves, Komeda once again make "Blossom (Got to Get It Out)" a highlight of the album on which it appears. In turn, the song seems to have inspired the sassy bounce of a couple other Kokomemedada tracks. "Reproduce" borrows some of "Blossom"'s choogle, along with the melody and bassline of Canned Heat's "On the Road Again," while the U.S. bonus track "Check It Out" jumps and shakes like a wind-up toy as its backward backing vocals and bleep-bloopy synths give it an appealing trippiness. "Victory Lane"'s sexy fusion of new wave and disco makes it a standout track, and the same can be said for the sparkling pop of "Elvira Madigan," an homage to Bo Widerberg's 1967 film. Kokomemedada's poppy songs pull the listener into the album immediately, but its quieter tracks grow more interesting with repeated listens. "Nonsense" opens the album on a low-key but intricate note, its slightly glitchy psychedelia moving from sad to happy and back to sad again. "Fade In Fade Out" and "Dead" also add some delicacy to the album, with layers of chilly synths, strings, and Lena Karlsson's vocals. The album loses a little momentum after the Magnetic Fields-like "Catcher," and while it isn't as captivating overall as Komeda's best work, Kokomemedada is still a strong addition to the band's discography. ~ Heather Phares

| Kokomemedada Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) It gets better the more you listen to it "What makes it Go" was their first album I listened to. It is so good its a tough act to follow. At first I didn't like this as much, but I warmed up to it. While its not as godo as "What makes it go" its still very good and worth buying if you like Komeda Submitted by Brandon (NY, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

KALEIDOSCOPE WORLD, The Chills' 18-track compilation culled from The Chills early and mid-'80s EPs and singles, is highlighted by the song "Pink Frost."

Kokomemedada songs
$16.65 The sheer toughness -- and overall derivative -- nature of Killing Floor's debut album, issued six months after Led Zeppelin's debut in 1969 on the Spark label, is a wondrous contrast to the overly slick treatment American blues were given by British artists. All of these tunes, with the exception of one, are revamped versions of songs from the blues canon with different words. The lone "cover" in the set was written by Willie Dixon titled "Woman You Need Love," the tune Zep ripped for "Whole Lotta Love." Despite the fact that this set was issued before by Repertoire, the Akarma version is definitive in that it features the original ...
| | Danny Kirwan Second Chapter CD (1975) With Book; Limited Edition; Digipak
Kokomemedada album
$19.79 The first solo album from Fleetwood Mac singer/songwriter Daniel David Kirwan has the future producer for Human League and Buzzcocks, Martin Rushent, utilizing those skills here, as well as engineering. The sound is crystal clear, and a feather in the cap for Rushent as well as Kirwan. It starts off with an uncharacteristic "Ram Jam City," which has more Lindsey Buckingham sounds than one would expect, especially since the two guitarists come from two different musical worlds. "Odds and Ends" is more lighthearted, the kind of music Paul McCartney toyed with on The White Album's "Rocky Raccoon." What Second Chapter immediately sets forth is the importance of Kirwan as a pop artist, and how, despite Fleetwood Mac's success after he left, his ...
| | Legend CD (2007) With Book; Limited Edition; Digipak
Kokomemedada CD music
$16.59 In some circles, Mickey Jupp is something of a minor legend, a roots rocker with excellent taste and a cutting wit, best heard on the songs "Switchboard Susan" and "You'll Never Get Me Up in One of Those," both covered by Nick Lowe. Basher's endorsement is a clear indication that Jupp is a pub rocker, a guy who specializes in laid-back good times, so it shouldn't come as a great surprise that his first band, Legend, was proto-pub, an unabashed celebration of old-time rock & roll, filled ...

$15.19 This CD is a treasure-trove of fun, engaging traditional nursery rhymes, Mother Goose rhymes, fingerplays and children's songs in child-friendly arrangements. It provides an antidote to the overly jazzed up, hip-hopped, and over-processed music all too common in children's music today. These rhymes and songs were recorded with mostly acoustic ...
