A veteran of 10 albums at the age of 26 and an acclaimed member of Houston's Screwed Up Click, Z-Ro is much more complex than his surface or the simple intro of THE LIFE OF JOSEPH W. MCVEY may imply. Prolific output isn't the only thing he has in common with hardcore legends such as Too Short and Rap-A-Lot icon Scarface; Z-Ro also cuts his hard-edged street delivery with a haunting, almost hypnotic, introspection.
As this album reveals, Z-Ro deeply feels every word he sings. With "I Hate U B***h," the song is not so much a misogynistic rant as the pained, primal gut-reaction of a devoted man who's been hurt by the object of his affection (the line after the title is "I never thought I would say [it]"). On the melodic "Why?," he ponders the insanity of the thug life, wishing he could be loving and simple, spiritual and comfortable, but uncertain of how to find his escape. THE LIFE OF JOSEPH MCVEY reveals a tortured soul who concurrently knows himself and doesn't understand a thing, making this an achingly honest record that deserves to break Z-Ro through to new audiences.
This is an example of the Southern Rap "screwed" mix style.

What can I say? The man is raw, point blank. In today's watered down rap game, its good to see someone keepin' it real as possible. I respect that my man goes hard without the thought of commercializin' his music. He doesn't remind me of any other rapper, but like Pac & GB you can hear the realness & . Even though I'm glad to see that Robert Davis' music is getting the recognition it deserves, I can't stand that a lot bullshytters are eatin' of his name. But I know Ro is the real S.U.C Representa!!! Say, Ro, when I get my album out there, we gotta get up on a freestyle, mayne. SS, the man is wicked***

there's only one word that could be used to describe mr. joseph mcvey.REAL. i don't care what nobody says there will never be another rapper as real as him. yeah tupac was close but in my opinion ZRO got him. this man deserves his props for what he expresses in his music. i feel like he ain't gettin the glory that he deserves on what he be saying. the lyrics are real and the words are coming the heart. it's about time he and texas it's gettin it's shine on.ZRO don't worry about hte haters cause u know they out there just keep on doin what u do.
