| | Bjork Vespertine Live CD Bjork Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Beginning with the strangely soothing, childlike music-box intro of "Frosti," this live album, recorded on the 2001 tour, presents Bjork in the mellowest of moods. Here the often-restless Icelandic performer conveys her unique mixture of wide-eyed innocence and tender sensuality in a set that draws heavily from the relatively subdued VESPERTINE and HOMOGENIC albums. As on her other live releases, Bjork presents reconfigured versions of her compositions, never content to simply recreate her studio albums onstage.
Bjork's drifting, dreamy songs--including "All Is Full of Love," "Aurora," "Undo," and "Unravel"--benefit from spare electronics by the duo Matmos, the entrancing harp playing of Zeena Parkins, and the angelic background vocals of a Scandinavian choir. In a rare treat, Bjork performs "I've Seen It All" from the SELMASONGS album, taking over the lines originally sung by Radiohead's Thom Yorke. The concert also features two excellent non-album tracks--"Generous Palmstroke," with Bjork's emotive voice accompanied only by Parkins's harp, and "It's in Our Hands," the blissed-out closing number.

Recorded at various performances on her 1997-'98 tour, this live collection features Bjork backed only by her collaborator Mark Bell (on various electronic instruments) and the Icelandic String Octet. This relatively spare instrumentation allows Bjork to take her songs down slightly different paths, while retaining the heart of the studio recordings. Bjork's voice shines throughout, whether she's cutting loose on the liberating "5 Years" and the fiercely cathartic "Pluto" or gliding over the melodies of the pensive "You've Been Flirting Again" and the dreamy "All ...

| | Converge When Forever Comes Crashing CD (1998) Remastered; Enhanced CD
Vespertine Live CD music
$11.65 Over the course of the years since the band's formation in the early '90s, Converge has continued to release solid hardcore-metal records that improve each time in their technicality and structure, becoming more and more experimental within a musical genre that has a reputation for being quite stagnant. When Forever Comes Crashing is the culmination of that growth -- an extremely solid, well-written, and produced album that pushes the hardcore boundaries while maintaining the ability to explode. Precise and relentess, the 11 tracks ...
| | Serge Gainsbourg L' Homme A Tete De Chou CD (1976) (Import) France
Vespertine Live music CDs
$18.39 French pop icon Serge Gainsbourg released L'HOMME A TETE DE CHOU in 1976. It contains the songs "Flash Forward," "Aeroplanes," and "Variations Sur Marilou."
Even tolerant music fans shudder inwardly at the mention of the concept album, a largely prog rock genre that spawned many of the greatest aesthetic indiscretions of the '70s. L'Homme à Tête de Chou (The Man with the Cabbage Head) is a concept album and shares some of prog's general characteristics, but it's unlike anything emanating from rock's beardy depths. In the spirit of his 1971 masterpiece Histoire de Melody Nelson, Gainsbourg sets this album's brief tale amid a widescreen musical canvas. Whereas Melody Nelson was provocative without being explicit, the gravel-voiced Gallic lecher goes X-rated here -- albeit without sacrificing ...
