Come Sail Away: The Styx Anthology album for sale Product Description

Come Sail Away: The Styx Anthology album for sale by Styx was released May 04, 2004 on the Chronicles label. There have been several Styx anthologies over the years, and the surplus of hits in the band's catalogue certainly warrants such treatment. Come Sail Away: The Styx Anthology songs COME SAIL AWAY, however, provides the most in-depth sonic Styx scrapbook one could want. Though the arrival of Tommy Shaw in 1976 helped push the band toward superstardom, this two-disc collection doesn't shy away from the oft-neglected pre-Shaw days, including not merely the archetypal power ballad "Lady," but also such obscurities as the thumping riff-rocker "Best Thing" and the joyous, harmony-laden "You Need Love." From there, we chart Styx's ascension to AOR glory on the wings of prog-rock-tinged epics such as "Come Sail Away" and "Pieces of Eight." Along the way, little-known gems are unearthed, like the moody, acoustic ballad "Boat on the River," before we launch into the synth-bedecked swan song of the original lineup, "Mr. Come Sail Away: The Styx Anthology CD music is a 2-disc set with 35 songs.   ...See Full Description

An Excellent STYX Compilation That Could’ve Even Been Better
As a long time STYX fan and music collector I was thrilled when I heard that STYX were planning on releasing a Greatest Hits Box Set encompassing their entire career from both the Wooden Nickel/RCA & A&M Labels.

good collection
This album used to be called Styx "come sail away/the Styx anthology", but now it is called "gold". I think this is in conjunction to Universal Music series called "gold", a 2 cd set compilation, remastered, reissued.

Good Collection by Styx!
Second of all, it's "their ears"! Don't they teach English in the UK? But I'll give you that they don't compare to some of the great UK bands.

Come Sail Away: The Styx Anthology buy CD music THE VERY BEST OF includes a 46-page booklet with pictures and track information. "Hole In The World" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. The Eagles' founders Don Henley and Glenn Frey were forthright in their desire to bring then-emerging country rock to new heights of commercial success. Formed in Los Angeles in 1971, they learned from their observations of the scene around them, and subsequently took their music to the top of the charts. They stayed there throughout the '70s, becoming synonymous with the sound of Southern California rock. The band's first hit was with a song by Jackson Browne, and their first album also included a cover of "Ol' 55" by Tom Waits, but the bulk of the material they're known for was penned by Henley and Frey. This two-disc set wisely expands the original VERY BEST OF collection with important album tracks that have also long been band staples and favorites (such as the aforementioned Waits tune and a number of other songs from their pre-platinum first three releases). As is often the common industry-wide practice, there's also a new song, "Hole in the World." A 2-CD retrospective from the multiplatinum superstars whose 1976 "Greatest Hits" is the #1 album of all time! Special Limited Edition bonus DVD included with a music video, outtakes from the video and backstage pass to Farewell 1. Initial pressings included a bonus DVD. Recorded between 1972 & 2003. The Eagles: Bernie Leadon (vocals, guitar, slide guitar, pedal steel guitar, banjo, mandolin); Don Felder (vocals, guitar, slide guitar, steel guitar, keyboards); Glen Frey, Joe Walsh (vocals, guitar, slide guitar, keyboards); Randy Meisner (vocals, guitar, guitarron, bass); Don Henley (vocals, drums, percussion); Timothy B. Schmit (vocals, bass). Producers: Glyn Johns, Bill Szymczyk, Eagles, Elliot Scheiner, Rob Jacobs. Compilation producer: The Eagles. Come Sail Away: The Styx Anthology songs When Jon Anderson rejoined Yes after DRAMA, he was inserting himself into an unusual situation. Keyboardist Geoff Downes and longtime guitarist Steve Howe had left to form Asia with prog rock vets John Wetton (King Crimson, Roxy Music etc.) and Carl Palmer (ELP). Chris Squire and Alan White brought original Yes keysman Tony Kaye back and recruited vibrant young Australian guitarist/vocalist/composer Trevor Rabin. The quartet had already begun writing and recording, but Anderson was able to insert himself into the proceedings with such ease that the new combination sounds completely natural on 90125. Mostly, the band was concerned with trimming the musical fat to keep pace with the onslaught of the 1980s. Thus, tracks like "Owner of a Lonely Heart" and "City of Love" are full of samples, splices and almost funky beats and riffs. The unusual time changes and complex riffs of tunes like "Changes" and "Cinema" leave little doubt that this is still a Yes album, but the band succeeds in giving their sound a contemporary overhaul on 90125. Includes 6 bonus tracks. Additional Tracks Recorded at Sarm Studio, London, England. Originally released on Atco (90125). Come Sail Away: The Styx Anthology album for sale Recorded on a simple 12-track recorder as a demo, it was so good that the record company released it. Tom Scholz masterminded the project in his spare time; little did he know that this record came to define AOR, and would become a hi-fi store standard demo disc. Since that time, this record-breaking debut has sold 15 million copies in its homeland. Sholtz put so much effort into making it, he has managed only three further records in 22 years. "More Than A Feeling" still chills in a corny sort of way and the harmonies are pretty impressive. Recorded at Foxglove Studios, Watertown, Massachusetts; Capitol Studios, Hollywood, California; The Record Plant, Los Angeles, California between 1975 and 1976. Boston: Brad Delp (vocals); Tom Scholz (guitar, bass guitar); Barry Goudreau (guitar); Fran Sheehan (bass guitar); Sib Hashian (drums). Come Sail Away: The Styx Anthology CD music The title says it all. The cream of the crop from one of rock's most enduring and successful bands. Hardcore Journey fans will want this because of the fidelity improvement; (the material is remastered from the original source tapes). Everyone else will want this because it's simply one of the best hits collections ever released. With new liner notes by Rolling Stone's David Wild, ESSENTIAL is over 130 minutes of music covering the group's 1978-1996 output. The classics ("Don't Stop Believin', "Who's Crying Now", "Faithfully") are known and loved by all, but it's the minor hits and album tracks that truly shine here. "Patiently" (a gorgeous ballad) and "Line Of Fire" (a boogie woogie crowd pleaser from the live CAPTURED) will make you want to purchase the original albums from which they hail, as will the beautiful "Good Morning Girl." From blistering, adrenaline-pumping rockers ("Any Way You Want It", "Chain Reaction", "Escape) to raise-your-lighter power ballads ("When You Love A Woman", "Open Arms") and everything in between (the reggae-ish "Baby I'm A Leavin' You) there isn't a bad cut here. The Journey continues... Includes liner notes by David Wild. Digitally remastered by Bob Ludwig (Gateway Mastering). 2cds. Come Sail Away: The Styx Anthology buy CD music Though Styx became known as purveyors of seamless AOR power ballads in the late 1970s, few recall that they spent the early part of that decade working a grittier, more complex format. Before singer/songwriter/guitarist Tommy Shaw arrived to aid Styx in their pursuit of the mainstream, they released four albums on indie label Wooden Nickel between 1972 and 1974. With original guitarist John Curulewski still on board, Styx had a harder edge and a more eclectic sound. Those four albums are neatly compiled here on two discs. The stylistic spectrum traversed therein encompasses prog-rock epics, Lynyrd Skynyrd-like blues-rockers, classical flourishes, metal-tinged hard rock, and even the occasional touch of jazz fusion. Of course, the hook-heavy songwriting and spotless vocal harmonies that would later make Styx superstars are present throughout, as is the early sleeper hit "Lady," a foreshadowing of things to come. For those who think the story of Styx began with "Come Sail Away," THE COMPLETE WOODEN NICKEL RECORDINGS will be an education. 2cds Incl."Styx","Styx II", "Serpent Is Rising","Man Of Mi Audio Mixers: John Ryan ; Barry Mraz. Come Sail Away: The Styx Anthology songs Named after an early pickup truck, this band from Champaign, Illinois recorded some of America's most popular arena rock. THE ESSENTIAL REO SPEEDWAGON charts the group's progress from 1971 to 1999, from the early riff-rockers on which the act built its fanbase to the juggernaut hits of the early 1980s to a handful of later recordings. Kevin Cronin and company certainly know their way around an anthemic ballad, as evidenced on the guitar-driven "Keep on Loving You," the powerfully catchy "Take It on the Run," and keyboard-laden "Can't Fight This Feeling." The earlier collection THE HITS places all of REO Speedwagon's radio-friendly singles in a more concise, single-disc package for casual fans, but, for those wishing to delve further into the band's catalog, this double-CD compilation is indeed essential. Liner Note Author: Kevin Cronin. Recording information: 1971-1999. REO Speedwagon: Kevin Cronin (vocals, guitar, piano); Mike Murphy (vocals); Gary Richrath (guitar); Bruce Hall (bass guitar). Audio Mixer: Andy Manganello.
