(2 Customer Reviews)
On his second album, IT'S NOT FUNNY, actor/comedian David Cross (veteran of cult classics MR. SHOW and THE BEN STILLER SHOW) examines the rise of patriotic country songs as the United States prepared for war with Iraq, skewering the likes of Lee Greenwood with his acerbic satire. This sharply honed attack exemplifies a man with a quick wit who has become royalty in the kingdom of cutting-edge comedy.
Cross is not explicitly a political comedian; however, as with the late Bill Hicks, his humor derives from wandering monologues that pick apart the ridiculousness and hypocrisy of society. Cross's every path just naturally strolls back to politics, and usually to the Bush Administration and the Iraq War. He's not a fan of either, to say the least, but while his attacks are pointed and fierce, the self-effacing, hyper-confident performer never falls into the trap of sacrificing comedy for rhetoric. With its relentlessly scathing humor, IT'S NOT FUNNY is nothing less than what Cross's devoted fans would expect.

Editors: Jeremy Hartshorn; Chris Fahey.Uncut (p.112) - 4 stars out of 5 - "Taking up the baton so tragically laid down by Bill Hicks in the early '90s, comedian David Cross also echoes some of the late Sam Kinison's heavy metal comedic riffery..." Magnet (p.97) - "His conversational delivery on IT'S NOT FUNNY is perfect for concealing sharp sarcasm, and he has a knack for making obvious punching bags hilarious." | | Jeff Dunham - Spark Of Insanity DVD (2007) Widescreen
It's Not Funny CD music
$11.35 Comedian and ventriloquist Jeff Dunham hits the stage with hilarious new pals Achmed the Dead Terrorist and Melvin the Super hero, as well as old favorites Peanut, Walter, and Jose Jalapeno, in this sidesplitting performance at Washington D.C.'s Warner Theater.
More than just a stand-up comic, Jeff Dunham is a one-man comedy troupe--a ring-leader in a circus of snark. The veteran ventriloquist may be the only one with vocal chords, but he’s often the least vocal, playing straight man to a steam trunk of personalities: Achmed the Dead Terrorist, a goofball skeleton still fighting the infidels; Peanut, an odd purple creature with a fast mouth; Jose Jalapeño, a smooth-talking pepper on a stick; Bubba J, NASCAR’s biggest fan; and Walter, a dirty old man who speaks his mind. Together with his hilarious and irreverent puppets, Dunham riffs on everything from politics to family life, and slays the audience with his quick-witted banter. SPARK OF INSANITY features one of Dunham’s funniest performances, recorded live at Washington D.C.’s Warner Theater.

$10.15 Demander's first full length, recorded in Brooklyn, NY 2007. "I like this band. Now I could approximate Demander's sound by describing the NYC trio as Tom Waits with surf rhythms and blistering female vocals, at times edging on melodicore, driving a speeding runaway train of adventure rock with vivid, emotive vocals. My roommate calls the band, "Yeah Yeah Yeahs on prog(?) pills, exuberant but kinda gloomy, Sergio Leone dramatics + NYC guitar rock." So I guess "cross-genre" would be an accurate descriptor; I feel guilty about making comparisons. Demander has its own sound, touching on so many different reference ...
