Few performers have ever been as moving as Patti Smith. This album just keeps getting better every time I listen to it. Powerful, passionate and deeply beautiful. Patti proves once again that she is one of our most important artists.

While other aging rockers turn to standards or tired revivals of their own glory days, Ms. Smith continues to churn out muscular riff-laced songs with vital lyrics cast down like lightning bolts to startle the sleeping masses. Her voice remains both dark and promising. This was a cathartic listen, even on first spin. And that says a lot.
